Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra. This seems to be everyone's favorite episode of The Next Generation. I see a major plot hole in this episode. For those who are not familiar, Captain Picard encounters a race of aliens who only speak in metaphors. Darmok and Jalad at represents two enemies who crash landed on a planet and had to work together to defeat a common enemy. Here's the problem that the writers missed.. you can't have a language of only metaphors because in order for the language to pass down from generation to generation then you must be able to explain what the metaphors mean. How do you explain what the metaphors mean ... ..if you can only speak in metaphors?...my reply....Gene Roddenberry with illogical plot

I think I like the novels better than I do the show. any of the ones by Michael Friedman are always really good

Actually, that is not my favorite TNG episode. It's mildly interesting, but like you said, it's confusing.

My favorite episode is "Cause and Effect" -- when the crew keeps looping the same time frame over and over. It's rather inventive. I've always liked the episodes that deal with time.

I am such a Trekkie, I actually watched the original series the first time through the first time it was shown on TV. So, if it's Star Trek -- any series -- I've seen it more than twice. (Only watched DS9 twice, because I didn't like it. That bad. lol)

But, it misses logic often. My two favorite illogics:
-- If Vulcans suppress feelings, then explain friendship and the pride of being logical. Aren't those both feelings?

-- If they've "evolved" into non violence, then why are there arguments and some level of violence on just about every show?
