Is talking about setting new year resolutions common in where you are? It is very common in my country but for many years, I have stopped making any new year resolutions. It aches more when it doesn't get fulfill. 12 months may seem like a long time but when we are so busy with our schedule each day, 12 months pass by so quickly that you have no idea that the year had ended and another new year shall begin.

Being a Chinese, there's yet another New Year to celebrate after this one as the Chinese community follows the lunar calendar. In 2016, Chinese New Year falls on 8 Feb 2016 and the Chinese calendar has 12 different animal zodiac per year. If I'm right, they even go by 4 different elements (can't quite remember what they are). From 8 Feb 2016 onward (if I'm correct) until the next Chinese New Year in 2017, it is the year of the monkey. So, towards the end of the year (like now), the Chinese will be busy studying how their animal year (the year they are born into) would bring luck, fortune, health, etc. in the year of the monkey. Christian on the other hand, do not follow such fortune telling and neither do they follow closely to whatever that is being predicted as life belongs to God; He is the author of our life.

In your culture and customs, what is it like when the new year begins?

Are there any specific thing that people look out to do in your country apart from all those? We have all that you have here in Malaysia too but the state where I came from, Penang, when the clock strikes 12 midnight on New Years Eve, the ships and other vehicles on the road will honk while the party goes on in different places and fireworks playing in the sky.

I can barely sleep in Indonesia during New Year's celebrations because the fireworks are really loud and it's everywhere. We usually celebrate New Year by gathering with the whole family, or visit recreation places such as what's called 'lampion garden' in Indonesia. My family usually just stay at home and chat with each other, then at 10 or 11 we gather in a circle and pray together
