i remember when my boyfriend and i were in the "what are we?" stage lol. then one day, he said, "i wonder why people are afraid to talk about certain things." i asked him if he had a certain topic in mind. he said, "yes.... about us." lol. towards the end of that convo, i said i always saw us as friends even though i liked him. i said, "i was just waiting for you to say something." lol!

Yikers... So it ain't Jewish bread..... WAYYY OFF....
It could be worse. I thought it meant Grandpa, so the woman was stuck living with Grandpa when the relationship became serious.

My first gf used to ask me when she was going to get her engagement ring.

I used to tell her "when I finally get it instead of a gumball out of the machine".

 (speaking of cheaper...)
The closest I got to an engagement ring was a band off a cigar. (I lost it. Oops. I really did keep it in my wallet for years.) Hubby still thought he should get me one eventually, but we cleared the air when I was given Mom's engagement ring from Dad, and then turned around to give it to my brother, because he wanted to give it to his gf. I didn't want jewelry. I wanted him! He is my bling!

But telling that to a girl is pretty much telling her she's not important enough to give a ring to. It's one thing not to want a ring. (I think diamonds are ugly. Plain clear glass but more expensive.) It's another thing to be told you're worth a gumball machine ring.

Just a heads up for your future dating life.

I don't consider ourselves as a couple until she sends me a memo. So far I haven't received it, so I don't know why she claims that we are in a relationship.

Either that, or I might have accidently trashed the memo before even reading it.

No, she definitely didn't send me the memo.

I have observed that those who give necklaces to their fiance during engagement never end up together. I dont know why and what's with necklaces.
My sister got an expensive golden one from her ex. When they broke up I got it.
Thanks m8!!!

I was just joking with that gf when I used that line...

While we were dating we did go to different jewelry stores and she had pointed out what she liked..

I once went to an American couples week with my ex husband. Then he bought me a wallet because they taught that there that that was a nice thing to do lol.

I'd say it's the norm in the USA.

In most cases, the woman gets a nice engagement ring...and then an even nicer wedding ring.

By the time a guy is married, he's broke.
