I like NBA. Basketball is a game of agility and precision
It takes 20 minutes to play the last minute because of all the time outs, fouls and foul shots.

What do you like? water polo?

I enjoy many sports, including water polo.

As for football, I love it as do most Americans. There are a few changes I would make in order to make the sport ideal. Most of these changes would entail going back to its old rules and form of play:

1) no blitz
2) goal post on the goal line
3) expand the goal post by at least six yards
4) arm wrap tackle - should charge to be banned
5) more drop goals (still legal in the rule book though rarely used)
6) fewer commercial interruptions
7) 30 second re-start (45 seconds takes up too much time)
8) allow back field to use motion as in CFL
9) larger ball to allow more kicking

and I can probably think of a few others - the game now takes about three hours but should be no loner than two hours - it follows that the amateur game should be done within a shorter time frame

And face guards should be banned. The Split T and Wing T should be the only two offensive formations allowed. No more than three substitutions per play (so you have to play both offense and defense. Didn't they used to do something like that?)

Face guard isn't used in rugby so why use it in US football?

As for the old plays, yes, I'd love to see the Rockne box, single wing, the I, and wishbone.

The last time I watched a football game was in 2000.

Anyone else not give a flip about football or the superbowl?... I can't imagine anything more boring than watching a football game. However it is something that is so deeply ingrained in our culture that if you tell people you don't like it, they look at you like you're from another planet

Yeah...I get that reaction when I tell people I don't like hockey.

The wishbone is too modern.

It was originally used in Texas high school football in the mid 1950s - this makes it 60 years old. But actually, it is a variation of the old double wing, later called the wing T, and now called the spread.

Still, what made this attack mode so good was that the blitz was not really used much in the old days. The speed of the free safeties today neutralizes much of these old style attacks. All the more reason, I say, to ban the blitz, especially at the amateur level.

The T Formation is modern enough. The forward pass is a little too eccentric. Let's stick with the ground game. The occasional lateral and run around end will keep the defense off guard.

I would like to see more running and laterals but the field would have to be widened considerably owing to the speed and lateral quickness of the defensive players as compared to the past eras.

Perhaps we should write the commissioner.

Have done so in the past. In fact, I have written on sports forums but my suggestions have been largely ignored. Strangely enough the one person who did respond to a letter I wrote was Denny Green who coached the Minnesota Vikings. Sadly he passed away just recently.

Maybe they should enlarge the American football field like the Canadians.

I also don't like three downs but do approve of back field in motion - in fact, it was always allowed in the game until the modern era made it into a penalty.

And maybe they should outlaw holding the ball for kickers during field goals and extra points, so that they need to dropkick the ball, per your earlier suggestion.
