It's mostly a popularity poll. And it has quite a convoluted scheme:

You get a rep point for a certain number of postings.

You get rep points according to the person who reps you (if someone with 10 rep power reps you, you get 10 points, if someone with 20 rep power reps you you get 20 points).

At certain points milestones you get another rep power point (never have figured out exactly how many points it takes to achieve the next power point).

Clear as mud, eh? ;)

Posts like this should go in the User2User Tech section, though. Where you would find more posts asking the same.

All but forgotten about.

It's similar to "liking" a person's post. It was in place before "likes" became available here.

Every 100 rep points is worth an increase of 1 rep power. Each 1000 posts is awarded 1 rep power. Each anniversary of joining is also worth 1 rep power. You get the green bars only through increase of rep power due member rep comments. I believe that the max is 11 bars.

Every 50 posts is worth one rep power, up to a certain amount of posts. Then the posts double. The post numbers are different for everyone. Mine are 1000 posts to get a power. when someone reps you, you get points equal to their powers. If I repped you, you'd receive 90 points because I have 90 powers. Also, when someone reps you, you may or may not receive a power, depending on if they bring you up to the 100 point level or not.

To give a rep comment to someone click the star at the bottom left of that person's post, add a comment or leave your name so they know who it's from.
