What are people's thoughts on this game? I've recently become interested in it, it's just plain fun. However, after watching a documentary, it seems some Christians have deemed it satanic. I don't really see it, as nobody I know directly engages in sorcery as a result of playing Magic, and to me it just seems like a fun hobby to pass the time. I would see more plausibility in the financial exploitation of its consumer base than in the moral compass of the game's story and artwork.

Well then I can sum this up for you!!! IT RUINED MY relationship. HE BECAME addictive as if the devil took over. He stopped going to church, turned his back on everything, became obsessed with this game, tournaments and spent every dime and then started taking my money to purchase the cards to build the ultimate decks. He became a totally different person and I finally after months of trying to make him see, had to let him go. It was very hard, because he was also my best friend. This was 2 years ago. HE STILL is obsessed and still wasting his time and money with the goal to be CHAMPION. So well that is a nice sum up!!! I would greatly advise you dump the game now. IN the beginning I was like, oh its a harmless game. I will tell you there are actual threads online from former players of the addiction and issues it cost them. It was reassuring to know I wasn't alone.

When I was like 13/14 years old I played that game. I didnt invest too much time in it but I did go to tournaments from time to time. However, my friends dad spent thousand of dollars on it. I saw him spend almost $500 on one card. That is ridiculous. For those who remember, Wizards of The Coast did change the art work on a some of the cards because there were satanic symbols on them. Should a Christian play it.. No. Its a game of casting spells and summoning demons. Yes its just a game, but obviously, it can lead to things that puts Christ on the backburner. And, if you have that kind of money to blow, there are plenty of good causes that are much more rewarding and bring glory to God.

Thanks.

Though, this seems to be more of a problem of a person's self-control than a problem with the actual game itself. Sure, if addicted, this leads to serious issues--but that's like anything, such as alcohol. If you control yourself and play for fun, I don't see the issue. I just play casually, and don't take it too seriously. Although, I suppose there are alternatives I could play instead.

Also, there is a completely free online version (you win virtual coins by winning games and doing other things--you CAN buy coins if you want, but why would you when there's free alternative). This is almost always what I play.

I sort of learned the basics a few years back, and I have a deck, but I've forgotten most of the rules, and I don't have anyone to play with anymore, so that deck was sort of a waste of money :p I see nothing wrong with playing it now and then,
it's just an advanced card game.

I used to play this game...I has a blue and white deck composed of all flying creatures and enchantments to boost them....I kicked much hiney. When the new expansions came out, it made the old cards obsolete

It'd a fun game as it allows you to customize your deck any way you like it. .I recall a buddy had a blue deck that was infuriating

He was spending $500 or more on a card a week to have the best decks!!!

As to those saying FREE online and that its a person self control etc. I have to ask if you are casting spells of dark magic, etc. How is it self control issue if the spells are remembered and thought of. It all starts innocent and then it becomes a problem. Sorta of like, I will have one cigarette, well maybe another and then the addiction begins. YES every one has different levels of Self control, however the DEVIL easily preys on those who allow even a little wiggle room. Like say a game!!!!

I have one of the replica championship decks. If you were to buy the original cards, it would probably cost about $500

I saw a boy who got set free from a demon because he played those stupid magic games.
My ex played WOW. Those growling demons, how I hated them.

I remember one time I was playing a white deck and a buddy was playing black. He played a card called Darkest Hour (all creatures are black) , so I counter with Light of Day (black creatures do not attack or block) so we had a stalemate as we could not attack each other.

lol wasn't really looking for strategic advice on the actual game, more just looking thoughts on the moral compass.

I personally do not see a problem with it, along with Dungeons and Dragons... I've been a casual player of these games off and on for the past 20 years or so and I have not turned to Satanism so I think I'm OK

In my opinion, I don't know why a Christian would play any game that had the word "magic" in it. We really need to avoid all those things. I just don't see any good coming from them when there are lots of other games that have absolutely nothing to do with magic.

Why invite evil into your household?

Do you remember the lady in the news who allegedly killed someone over "slender man"?

Anyway, what does scripture say about role playing games?

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

Romans 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Do you enjoy watching television? Is there anything bad on it? Do you enjoy it? Paul has something to say about it in Romans 1:32 for those who take pleasure in the evil others commit.

What isn't satanic?

I remember it. Very in-depth game, very cool artwork. I understand the apprehension and the stigma; it's a little on the 'dark' side. It's what you make of it, IMO.

When all is said and done, in the end it is just a strategic card game.
