*Greetings,

*I have been watching various so-called "Christian" hymns on YouTube and I am about ready to throw up. Somehow these hymns do not appear to me to have much to do with God at all. The focus seems to be in the wrong place.

*I have chosen this particular hymn out of a vast number that I could choose from. Let's see if this hymn is a "God Centered" hymn, or a "Man Centered" hymn:

We Are The Reason

As little children we would dream of Christmas morn
Of all the gifts and toys we knew we’d find
But we never realized a baby born one blessed night
Gave us the greatest gift of our lives

*Jesus is just a present to mankind, just like we used to get as children.

Psalm 53:
2God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
3Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

*Sounds to me like we are on santa's naughty list. God's too!
I'm surprised there wasn't a big lump of coal in our stockings.

Jer 10:
2Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

*We were the reason that He gave His life

We were the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

Ezek 36:
22Therefore say unto the house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.

Matt 16:
23But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

As the years went by we learned more about gifts

The giving of ourselves and what that means
On a dark and cloudy day a man hung crying in the rain
All because of love
All because of love

*Maybe it's just me, but this comment seems disrespectful: "On a dark and cloudy day a man hung crying in the rain"

*Chorus

I finally found the reason for living

It’s in giving every part of my heart to Him (every part to Him)
And all that I do every word that I say (you know I’ll be saying)
I’ll be giving my all just for Him, for Him (every thing for Him)

*Hmm... I'm not so sure that God wants that heart of yours...

Ezekiel 36:
26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

We are the reason that He gave His life

We are the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give (all that he could give all)
To show us the reason to live

#He is the reason to live

(don’t you know do you know the reason
that he came, oh he came to save us
when he gave his life for us) he suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave everything (everything that He had He gave)
To show us the reason to live

*chorus + # together

Don’t know how I could thank Jesus all that he had all..
*chorus + # together

I agree. I go to a very wonderful church that has extremely strong teaching and preaching, but every once in a while we'll sing these songs I think are completely inane. A part of me tries to get past it thinking I should be able to sing anything if it's edifying God, but when the words to the songs don't make sense (I wish I was making this up: "God you are the Wonderful") or super juvenile and very uninspired ("God I love you God, you are my God, Love you God") I feel frustrated. There is also a lot of self-centered words (I worship, I give you praise, You are mine, I blah blah blah...)

It's probably not intentional but still bothersome.
