I need some help/advice concerning Netflix. How it works? Are they honest? Such as that.

I am considering signing up for their Basic Plan.......the $8.00 a month plan for my Lap Top. I read all I could find on line, but, as with anything on line........how much can one believe what they read on line, right?

I am wondering:

Are they trustworthy with personal information such as Credit/Debit Card Information?

Are they a reliable service?

Has anyone had a negative experience with Netflix?

If I use my Debit Card to make my Monthly Payment, how can I be sure they do not over charge/abuse my Debit Card by taking additional monies not related to my payment?

Hope someone has real world experience with Netflix......would appreciate any advice/tips offered.

it would be like renting from redbox or the like, just another way to access movies. your bank should cover you if you are over charged or abuse which I haven't heard of anybody that had this happened too..

What HE said.....

I've had Netflix for a long time... Never had an issue with it.. And they never over charge cause I have it set up where they take it OUT of my bank account. It's easier that way than to forget about it.

Its trusted and you can trust LB.... Go with Netflix my friend.... You won't be disappointed

Ok, however my situation is a bit different. My Credit/Debit card is a Social Security Credit/Debit Card, not a Bank Card. The Social Security Administration is my Bank...... :) weird huh?

So, I would have to give Netflix access to this Card, including the numerical information, which would allow them, should they desire to do so, to process charges on it any time they wished.

Other than that, I would have to create a Bank/Credit Union Account just for Netflix.......Hmm.......

Netflix has been 100% solid with me so far and I've been using it for about 6 years. If your internet's speed is halfway ok, you shouldn't have any problems. Most banks have a website/app where you can see your checking/savings account activities. It says when your debit card gets charged and what company charged it.

Also, you can cancel Netflix at any time so if you suspect them of being sketchy then you can just get rid of them with a couple of clicks.

But again, i've never had a problem with netflix and haven't met anyone who has.

EDIT: I just saw your post about your card. I'm not really sure how you would check the activity on that card, but I haven't ever known Netflix to be sketchy. They are a billion dollar company with legal responsibilities.

Netflix is a pretty large and reliable company that has been around for years. We have it and have never had any problems on the financial side.

Notice there are two sides of it though. Streaming and discs. The streaming is a nice feature with plenty of choices, unfortunately they are not usually good choices. Lots of old and unknown movies with a few good ones mixed in. And lots
of tv shows.
The streaming service does Not have new releases. For new releases you have to do the disc rental.

Streaming is $8. The disc rental feature is a separate $8 if you want that. Or $16 for both.

Yeh I had experience with Netflix, had to bypass geoblocking as it wasn't in Australia at the time and I found the movie library to be full of mostly crap (for lack of better words lol) so I deregistered. But what consists of a good film is subjective.

We've been Netflixing for a few years now. We started before streaming was a thing. (Back in Blockbuster days, when Netflix offered mailing movies back and forth by snail mail.)

We had two problems during that time:
1. I had to back and forth Pirates of the Caribbeans with them because they kept sending me scratched copies. (I don't think this will be a problem with you, since it sounds lie you only want to stream.)
2. Verizon got a bit proprietary over the use of bandwidth on their FiOS and was trying to get companies that stream heavily to pay for bandwidth by intentionally slowing down the streaming rate. That made Netflix "buffer" a lot. I missed how the companies resolved that issue, but that hasn't happened in a couple of years.

Each month on the same day of the month they just take their money from our account, lie you would expect them to do. They have never taken more, and certainly have never taken less. They do compete with Amazon now, so they don't have all the TV shows and movies to stream. Now that even more companies are in on this gig, it's getting harder to figure out which one has which TV show/movie. Sometimes they switch. (We have missed the last season of one or two shows because somehow Amazon ended up licensing with that company, so it was taken off Netflix.

Do NOT expect to get THE all-time best movies on your subscription. We have both Netflix and Amazon right now, and I cannot stream Finding Nemo (which I remembered looking for a couple of months ago, and was happy to see it on TV tonight instead), since neither had it available, ET, Independence Day, all the Avenger movies, all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Star Wars, LotR, Harry Potter, X-Men, or even all the Star Trek movies. They have some, sometimes, but they save the blockbusters for the folks still willing to spend the extra money. I can't even see Monument Men for some reason.

Both Amazon and Netflix plays games with TV series. For instance, I can watch Season 1 and 2, and then seasons 4 and 5, but I'm supposed to pay more to see season 3.

Oh, and when they do promotions to get more customers, never think they will give you a special deal just because you've been a loyal customer. New customers are great. Loyal customers don't quite matter so much. BUT, if you drop them for a year, they do then give you that free month again.

All in all, it's still cheaper to use both Netflix and Amazon Prime than to rent cable. But they've never ripped us off.

We use a debit card, so I don't think there's much difference, unless your account number is also your Social Security number. Granted, if someone ever hacked them, they'd have my bank account number, but I wouldn't want anyone to get both my social security number as my bank account number. Too easy to take over my identity then. (Not rich here, so stealing my identity won't make the thief rich either. lol)

thanks every one.........gonna try and get it set up sometime today........

I tried to do Hulu through my PS3 last week, but it really, really messed up my PS3. So bad, that it took over an hour on line with a rep to help me get rid of all the encripted junk that got put in my PS3 memory before my games would work again.

So, I'm gonna either go for Netflix on my Lap Top, or, I hear you can buy a Box from Walmart for about $40.00, and hook it up to your TV and get it that way. Whichever I choose, I won't risk "killing" my PS3 again.......sigh.....

Anyway, thanks a bunch, will let ya know how it goes. Yes, Streaming is how I would go.

Roku sells boxes that help stream on your TV. We got our Roku box when Netflix started streaming, and that first box may have just quit on me. (I am not mechanically inclined, so it may be me, but I won't know which until John gets home.) Still, long use for one device. I wish computers lasted that long. lol

If you get your box from Walmart, let me know how it goes. And is it a Roku box? I think we're close to time to get a new box. I've been streaming through our Blu-Ray player. I was good using Roku. Hit-or-miss with this gadget and hubby is telling me it is me. Probably is, but do they have to make so many gadgets that the unmechanically incline need help to work them every time?

You can buy Netflix gift cards at Target stores and a few other locations. I don't have cable , so every few months I just replenish my netflix/hulu/spotify premium accounts with gift cards

So I tried both Hulu and Netflix on my lap top (both had a free trial offer) and neither was satisfactory. Mainly because of my lap top I'm sure. It's several years old.

Problem was the audio was about 5 seconds behind the video..........kinda like watching a really bad Godzilla movie. :)

Anyway, if I'm gonna do this will have to dust off my wallet and get one of those boxes from Walmart. The Roku ones, They are between $60.00 and $130.00 depending on which one you get.

Sigh............I'm so TIGHT...........it hurts all the way to me wee little toes to think of spending $60.00 on a silly box to watch TV. Did I say I tried to go the Antenna route.........bought one this AM....got home, hooked it up....nothing, zip, zilch, nada.......took it back, bought the most powerful one they had, took it home, hooked it up, nothing, zip, zilch, nada.

Sigh......took it back, went to Burger King to get over the depressed state I was sinking in to........

#1, no pickles, no mayo, no onion, Large fires, Coke

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

So, will let ya know if I can force myself to but the box, and if it works for me.

Get an Amazon fire stick. I hear they rule. They seem cheaper than Roku. If I sell my PS4, it's what I'm getting. http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B00GDQ0RMG

Do you still have the freebie setup on your laptop? If so, try one more thing. When audio is delayed behind video, click pause for a few seconds, and try again. Sometimes, (rarely, but sometimes) it needs a little more time to buffer.

And you have a laptop? Wow! You're ahead of my technology.

What's the monthly service/membership fee........didn't see that mentioned
There isn't one. It's just a medium like a laptop or roku. You only pay for the services you use (example: Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, HBO,)
It

Careful though cause if your video/audio on your netflix is off, it COULD be your laptop...or it COULD be that you have sucky internet, or it COULD be that you have sucky hardware connecting your internet (old bad phone cords, phones directly plugged into phone jacks without an adaptor (assuming you have DSL), in which case nothing you can buy is going to work for you. Be careful my friend.

Sorry, it was kind of dumb of me to say that without including a speed test. AT&T High Speed Internet Speed Test
