It's a far cry from "People spend way too much time on Pokemon" (Which is probably true for many) to "pokemons are demons that will possess video tapes" (Which sounds more like a well known horror movie)

The main contention of my thread is not that this garbage is used too little or too much. It's that with those who identify themselves as Christians shouldn't be wasting their time with it at all. When you're a christian you need to do a huge clean out of your lifestyle. Your music, games, places you go, movies and if it doesn't match scripture it holds no place in your Christian life. Seeing Christians so transfixed like spell bound zombies on this enemy themed garbage when they could be studying their bibles is sickening. It's not a matter of too little or too much. First I want to I say I cracked up when i read pokeman in your op i don't why that is always funny to me it just is my grandpa thinks it's called pokeman too. second It's easy to see anything as demonic simply because I despise rap I could say it's demonic it isn't hard to find some kind of evidence to support that if you look for something you will find it.

But the holy spirit has always warned me when I am in the presence of something unholy I get this terrifyingly uneasy feeling in the my middle area when I am near something either demonic or the holy spirit wants me to stay far far away from and I play pokemon all the time never once did I ever get this feeling and I trust the holy spirit far more than I do an article of this

I can hit six Pokestops within a two-block radius. Since riding a bicycle works for hatching Pokemon Eggs, I just make the loop repeatedly until my pack gets full. It's great for exercise. Since we have multiple parkestops around the courthouse and post office, On Any Given evening you can go up there and see people out Pokemon hunting. It creates social interaction which is a good thing
Alternative suggestions:

How about riding the bicycle because it's excellent for your brain, your mental health and the temple, your body, that God gave you to look after and do His work and will in? How about because happiness via great health is your motivation?

On any given day and night you can join any bible discussion group or go out and talk to the homeless with community programs who will equip you with scriptures, bible studies or hampers to give to those less fortunate. It's fantastic for your own development of social skills if that's what you want to improve as well as positively affecting the lives of so many others with Jesus our Father.

Getting exercise with a physical and social purpose in mind which is directly in line with the will of our Father, should be a far greater motivation to be inspired by than the enemy themed garbage that is that animated scheme
that does nothing but damage in the long run.

Lady, you are looking only to destroy potential relationships and to infuriate anyone with enough sense to see that playing Pokemon is a passtime, not a way of life, or a method of distracting one's self from God. To be consistent, you would have to claim that anything in which God is not related to by definition is evil, such as horseback riding or watching television. You may believe that you are helping people by spouting this stuff, but believe me, the truth couldn't be any farther off. All I can say is this: enjoy being alone with your self-righteous conceits, as well as the overwhelming sense of bordom that you'll feel when you don't do ANYTHING because you can't let God meet you where you are. Point is, I hope for you, lady... I really do. But I'm sorry if you're blinded by pride that you don't hear me.

This is probably just me and it will be different for other people.

But for me as a child, I could never watch or read about anything with monsters
as it gave me bad nightmares. Even when lying awake in the dark I would be terrified
lying in the dark in case something was lurking there in the shadows, after watching
something on TV.

Even a bit later on as a teen when zombie games came out, one of my brothers use to
play them for hours on end, they always left a "bad taste in my mouth" left me feeling
hollow and empty. It's hard to explain.

Now as an adult I cannot watch any horror movies, anything demonic, definately not
any movies about hauntings and ghosts. It's as if I feel like I am letting something
into my life that is bad for me and plays on my mind.

Incidentally the brother who played all those zombie games years ago and still does.
Im convinced that he has been badly affected by them in a spiritual way, maybe not
screaming lunatic possessed. But he does have several strange things wrong with him.
He obsesses about strange things and gets all sort of phobias which can just appear.
His entire demeanour can be very strange.

Why am I saying all this, well it's because when the whole Pokemon thing came out
the first time around, I felt a strong aversion to it and kept well away from it. It
felt like something I should avoid. This new style of Pokemon game, feels the same.

Ps have any of you watched the film the golden compass where each person had their own
Damon (demon) in the form of an animal. It was aimed at a child audience. That was just out
and out demonic. I feel a bit the same about the latest Pokemon.

Ive felt strongly for a link time that we must guard the hearts and minds of children and
young people and be aware of the things out there that can influence them. As adults you
can all make up your own minds about what affects you and what you want to avoid etc.
But children are often innocent and just go along with whatever is happening and the current
trend.

If you had an ex rated film with lots of violence you would not let a child watch (at least I
hope not) but fluffy characters fighting, training them up etc. Is somehow seemed as
acceptable to let a child do. Why would you want to encourage a child to fight and become
involved in violence.

As for adults, it's for each person to decide in their own mind where they stand on the
matter.

More's the pity that Christians are walking around searching out something which
represents the demonic and spirits which are/were worshipped.

17 Pokemon based on real-world mythology | GamesRadar+

It's hard enough to come up with a small handful memorable video game characters
without relying on other forms of "inspiration" for ideas. But when you're Game Freak,
you've got to come up with 719 (and counting) unique pocket monsters to collect, and
you're bound to run out of ideas eventually.

Luckily for the developers of the Pokmon franchise, our world is filled with a wealth
of monsters, ghouls, golems, and other mythological creatures
just sitting around
in the public domain, waiting to be cribbed from. And while the designs are purely
the product of Game Freak's active imagination, many of their Pokmon feature moves
and back-stories inspired by some of the oldest stories ever told by mankind. These are some of the best.

Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus are actually the Kami of Shinto religion

Oh come on, Game Freak--you weren't even trying to hide the fact that this a trio of gods!
The references are a bit more subtle when these three are in their animalistic Therian forms,
but in Incarnate mode, they're practically bashing you over the head with their djinn-like
appearance. And while you might've assumed they were just elemental genies, Tornadus, Thundurus,
and Landorus are directly analogous to Fujin, Raijin, and Inari, three spirits oft worshipped
in the Shinto faith.

Kami is the Japanese word for god, spirit, or deity, who are worshipped by Shinto practitioners
for a variety of reasons. But these Pokmon actually occupy multiplecultural mythologies:
the Therian forms are all parallels to Four Symbols of Chinese constellations, namely the
Vermilion Bird, Azure Dragon, and White Tiger. You know what? We're not sure we're
comfortable with the idea of entrapping mythological deities in little orbs so we can carry
them around in our pockets.

Dunsparce is actually the Tsuchinoko

Is it a slug? An overgrown silkworm? A snake with wings? No one really knows--because
Dunsparce is based on an elusive creature called the Tsuchinoko. With no definitive proof
that the Tsuchinoko exists, it's essentially Japan's equivalent of Bigfoot or a Fiji Mermaid.
According to reported sightings, the Tsuchinoko looks a little like an overweight snake that
got its midsection flattened by a rolling pin.

Instead of slithering, the Tsuchinoko is said to inch forward like a slug or snail. Other legends
say that it can leap great distances, which could explain Dunsparce's adorable little wings.
The Tsuchinoko also has twin fangs, another trait shared by Dunsparce in much cuter fashion.
And the Pokmon series isn't the only place that the Tsuchinoko has reared its mythical head--you
can also spot the girthy snake-thing hidden in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Castlevania:
Aria of Sorrow.

Sneasel is actually a Kamaitachi

At first glance, Sneasel looks like your garden-variety Pokmon, as if someone just slapped talons
and feathers on a cat. But its name implies that it's some kind of sneaky weasel--which perfectly
captures the mythical Kamaitachi it's based on. The name is a compound of the Japanese words
for sickle and weasel, and the methods they use to prey on humans will change the way you
see Sneasels forever.

As the stories go, Kamaitachi hunt in packs of three, moving with lightning speed to get the jump
on humans. The first Kamaitachi knocks you down, the second uses its razor-sharp talons to flay
the flesh from your legs, and the third mends your wounds so you don't realize you've been attacked.
All this happens in the blink of an eye; you think you just tripped, while three weasel monsters
with huge claws run off chewing on your leg skin. Good God.

Mawile is actually a Futakuchi-onna

With a horrifying crocodile jaw springing from the back of its head, Mawile's design is about
as macabre as it gets for a non-Ghost type Pokmon, somehow balanced between nightmarish
and adorable. But Mawile's look didn't just pop out of an artist's morbid fever dream--it was
based on Futakuchi-onna, a monster of Japanese myth that's creepy to the max. Picture your
typical woman; now imagine that there's a fully formed mouth hiding beneath the hair on the
back of her head. Yeeeeeeugh.

The Futakuchi-onna is something of a cautionary tale about extreme dieting: women
who barely eat anything might find a second mouth sprouting from their skull, one that
requires twice the normal amount of food.
And it's totally capable of feeding itself if
necessary--the woman's hair will eventually develop a mind of its own, snapping up chow in
a tentacle-like fashion to feed the ravenous Futakuchi-onna. How a creature like this made it
into a Nintendo game, we'll never know.

Sableye is actually the Hopkinsville Goblin

Sweet, a Pokmon based on a myth that isn't of Japanese origin! Sableye is probably one of
the most bizarre-looking pocket monsters: a purple imp with jewels for eyes that looks
positively alien. That's intentional, because it was inspired by the Kelly-Hopkinsville
encounter, one of the most famous extraterrestrial sightings of the 20th century. If you live
in Kentucky, you should keep an eye out for this little guy.

While most aliens are described as little bald men with big black eyes and tiny nostrils, the
Hopkinsville Goblin is said to have pointy ears, bright glowing eyes, and no nose whatsoever.
It's not just one crackpot saying this, either; the appearance of the Hopkinsville Goblin has
been corroborated by multiple eye-witnessesalleged, of course. The Hopkinsville Goblin is
said to have silver skin, not purple, but the rest of the similarities to Sableye are too strong
to ignore.

Zapdos is actually the Native American thunderbird

One of the original Pokmon from Red and Blue, Zapdos is the ultimate badass of the trio
of Legendary Birds of Kanto. With the ability to summon lightning from its wings (and
beautiful plumage, to boot), Zapdos is highly sought after by stalwart Pokmon trainers
because of its immense strength and incredible rarity.

If any of this sounds familiar, it's because Zapdos is essentially a direct copy of the
thunderbird of Pacific Northwestern Native American Lore.
Many tribes (like the Lakota
or the Kwakwaka'wakw) have some version of the thunderbird (with dozens of different
names), but all of them have a few things in common. The thunderbird is the spirit of thunder,
lightning, and rain, and it's able to create thunder by flapping its wings. Much like Zapdos,
you'll want to make sure it's on your good side, lest you anger it and get the worst static
shock of your life. Maybe throw your expensive (and much more comfortable) Pokballs
when you capture it, eh?

Whiscash is actually the Namazu

This vapidly smiling fish may not look as goofy as Magikarp, but Whiscash's weird,
moustache-like whiskers make it a close second. But whatever you do, don't let a Whiscash
hear you mock it--because it might just level your house under a rockslide in retaliation.
See, Whiscash is actually a variation of the Namazu, a humongous catfish that can start
earthquakes at will just by thrashing around.

Way back in 1855, a disastrous earthquake leveled a huge region of Japan, killing
thousands and leveling over 50,000 structures. Scared and confused, the survivors
took to worshipping the giant catfish Namazu t
o stave off further calamities. Whiscash
can't create fissures anywhere near that level of calamity, but its inherent Earthquake and
Fissure abilities are telling of the allusion to Namazu's power.

Golurk is actually the Golem of Prague

Golems have become a pretty recognizable fixture of video game bestiaries, pretty much
describing any kind of hulking figure made from typically inanimate objects. And while
the hefty, stone-like Golurk definitely fits the bill for the average golem, that are some
details that suggest this is not your run-of-the-mill artificial human made from magic.
Specifically, this could be the golem from the well-known Jewish legend put forth by
Rabbi Loew.

The story goes that the Golem of Prague was a clay figure, given life through divine
Hebrew inscriptions. Its task was to protect Jews from attacks
and persecution in the
ghettos of Prague. This story was somehow made into a two-part comedy for the Czech
films The Emperor and the Golem. That film portrayed the Golem as a large clay figure
held together by straps, including one over a large gash in its chest. Hey, just like Golurk!

Froslass is actually the Yuki-onna

This strictly female Pokmon is the evolved form of Snorunt, itself based on the Yukinko
snow children of Japanese lore. But while the Yukinko are relatively benign, the basis
for Froslass is much more sinister: Yuki-onna, a vengeful spirit that also traces to Japanese
mythology. This spirit takes form as a beautiful woman hovering above the snow, entrapping
her victims with her icy breath or luring them into blizzards from which they never return.

In case you had any doubts that Yuki-onna is not to be trifled with, some accounts say that
she consumes the blood of her prey, or lures men to their deaths akin to succubae or
mermaid sirens. She doesn't just wander around snowy fields, either--Yuki-onna has
been said to invade homes and abduct children.
Funnily enough, the murderous
Yuki-onna might've also been the inspiration for Jynx as well as Froslass--but the latter
definitely captures the icy seductress vibe inherent to the original myth.

I thoroughly enjoy the dialogue this thread has opened up. It doesn't matter at all that there are various other threads on the same subject. Different people bring different ideas to new threads on the matter all the time and this is fantastic for educating others and making all aware on what prior threads missed out on. Thankyou to all who participated in it constructively, it is very much appreciated. I pray that it reaches many people across the globe and they learn to fix their attention on the Lord and all things heavenly from now on.

Repost from other pokemon thread:

Pokemon stands for pocket monster....the very fact they are "summoned" is hint enough as demons are also "summoned" the same way....

The artwork of the characters is also filled with hidden satanic symbology.

An interesting read about background of Pokemon's religious themes...

"Romans 5:13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law."

Where I come from, mythology doesn't exist. So, in no way, will I ever associate Pokemon with these creatures you guys mention. Pokemon, has always, and will always be, to me, just like Spongebob and Patrick. There is no difference.

"Keep your belief about such matters between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the one who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin." Romans 14:22-23

If you think Pokemon is evil, by all means, avoid it. With all due respect, just because your mind evaluates it as such, doesn't mean it's to be evaluated the same for the rest of the world. That'd turn out to be a very legalistic world.

And if you're serious about keeping all evil away, you're doing a pretty bad job. Go protest against Diablo. Tbh that's more evil.

Not liking Pokemon, doesn't make the world less evil. Nor does it make a Christian, more Spiritual.

I have to say that I have always been disturbed by some of the stuff that comes out of Japan and the East. They have produced a lot of animated films that feature various spirits that control and influence the characters lives. Japan's population is only about 2% Christian, which means the rest are under some form of deception. When the truth is rejected, the void in the soul fills up with lies (doctrines of demons).

There is a significant amount of missionary work to be done in Japan. I've done work here in Australia and for the past 2 years in America, but Japan is one place that is sorely lacking in any understanding of Christianity. They definitely need a huge revolution there in their current culture as it is absolutely entrenched in the enemy, it is indescribable. However, I know that nothing is impossible with the Lord. I pray that they leave behind all things of the enemy and come to know Christ and our Saviour's ways. As the Word says:

Tbh, my parents never let my brother and I play/watch Pokemon (or Yu-Gi-Oh!, or anything of the kind) for precisely these reasons.

It's true that if you don't know about the origins/connotations of something, your conscience won't be effected by it (unless God speaks to you directly about it without you quite knowing the reasons why); but being ignorant of an influence in your life doesn't make it any less of an influence, even if you aren't aware of it, or deny it if you are. What kind of influence does Pokemon have? I don't know, which is bothersome to me.

While my personal grudge against Pokemon could possibly have more to do with my hipster side, there is also the element of suspicion that anything in the way of entertainment that becomes wildly popular in a world opposed to the cause of Christ should be subject to immediate suspicion. (Both being reasons why I've never read through a Twilight or Harry Potter book.)

I'm hardly going to throw rocks at anyone who plays it. It's personal choice, and God is perfectly able to lead the open-minded who want to know what He thinks of things. But I will say that I'm suspicious of it, and won't get into it for multiple reasons:
1. Everyone else is doing it. (Which, given the world we live in, makes it a bit suspect to me.)
2. I'm an expert at wasting time and I don't need any more help at it.
3. It has dubious origins/connections IMO.
4. I wouldn't let my kids play it if I had kids, and I hope to not be the kind of parent who does stuff they don't want their kids doing.
5. It's probably a government conspiracy of some kind. ;)

As the gentleman in the story retold by the OP said,
“Tell the people from your churches, that if there are things that make them feel uncomfortable, it is probably not good. God’s Spirit will speak to them about what is right and wrong.”
That is simply the best way to handle it. And for me personally, that will mean avoiding it. ^u^

Your information is from dodgy sources. I'm not a big Pokemon fan. I enjoy it, but I hate how Christians are spreading lies about the series to keep people away. By the way, handing out Bibles, handing out scriptures - it doesn't really work in this day and age. You have to build a relationship with people first. I find your attitude rather legalistic. Yes, we need to be discerning, but your alternatives are ridiculous. It's like a Jesus Juke or something. I don't for one minute belive you spread every waking hour of your life preaching etc. Pokemon is a fun little game. If you have an addictive personality, don't play it. But for those who are responsible, I don't believe there's anything to worry about. I am a discerning Christian and Holy Spirit hasn't pricked my heart about it. Finally, Pokemon was inspired by the creators childhood love of bug-collecting and his love for anime and video games. There is a little influence from Japanese mythology eg. kami. But that's only because it's a Japanese worldview. You can play the game without ever considering any of the mythology. Besides, I don't put any stock in that stuff.

We really do have to be careful with Japanese influences, there's is a hotch potch of
religious beliefs, superstition, man made traditions, symbolism.

See below as one example.

I do know someone who is currently trying to learn how to speak Japenese, who
feels that God has put it on their heart to be a missionary to Japan. :)

Fortunately, as Christians would be aware, God isn't black and white, nor simple, but He's magnificent in His ways and the world He's provided for us to do His will in. He's taken me interstate and across the seas, internationally, do to His work and enjoy what this amazing life can bring by sowing seeds of righteousness and seeing what fruit is borne in other's lives as a result. As mentioned in my previous posts, understanding context is important. In all our ways we need to acknowledge Him and do His will for our life. As proverbs 3:6 tells us: In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your path straight. Being transfixed like a spell bound zombie on enemy themed garbage is fairly easy for me, and as others have shown in this thread, to eliminate. Making every effort to be involved in something constructive and Christ like instead with prayer and deliberation is what is the most important thing.

The bigger picture is to teach each other and younger generations, how to discern the enemy, shut the door and open their hearts and lives to Christ instead. The aforementioned animated scheme is anything but Godly and particularly with aspiring Christians, should be replaced with God's living word instead.

Excellent. The importance of this cannot be underestimated, especially in such a place as Japan. I am so glad to hear this.
