I received the long awaited phone call today. I am pleased to announce that tomorrow I go to orientation for my new job. I officially start my first day on Saturday. I couldn't be more excited. God gave me my long awaited job. I will be working overnight shifts 12 hours a day and at $11.00 per hour starting pay. The only downside I can see is having to miss church every other weekend. I don't like it, but at least I still have some Sundays off.

On the bright side I'll have consistent money coming in, the plant is tobacco free so I'll be able to quit finally, and overtime potential as well. I prayed to get a job that had a steady paycheck and to quit smoking. God provided me with both at once. Hallelujah praise the Lord. I am so excited. Thank you Lord for answering my prayers.

I ask everyone please be in prayer over me for two things. First pray that I'll have favor at my new job and perform well at it. Secondly pray that I will have an easy time quitting smoking. I'll essentially be quitting cold turkey and the side effects of when you first quit can be rough. When you first quit smoking It's easier to get angry, you tend to be on edge a lot, plus you can develop other things. One thing that happened to me was I started shaking bad and felt like I was having withdrawals. I wasn't expecting that one. Thank you everyone for all your prayers. I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.

That's great news! God is great! Thank you Jesus! I will continue to pray especially that the withdrawal symptoms will not show up and that you will overcome.

Congratulations.... and all the best wishes for success, both in your job, and in your quitting smoking....

Working a compressed shift (especially the night shift) is also difficult... it messes with your sleep patterns, and can be distressing, mentally. I pray you have no troubles in that area, as well....

I love night shift. I'm a night owl. I used to work night shift all the time. It's been a while since I've done it though. It will take some time to get used to it again. I have God with me so who can be against me? Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. Thank you so much Lord. I am going to still keep God first. I wouldn't have gotten this job without Him. All honor, glory, and praise belongs to Him. God has truly blessed me. Thank you Lord for all that you do for my family, friends, and myself.

Wonderful news, praise God!!!

Have you tried using e-cigarettes, they can be very effective and the withdrawal is more gradual - just a thought?

See now, THAT's the job God wanted you to have. He DID say Yes. YAY!

But, heads up, get the nicotine patch. (If you smoke 10 or more cigs a day, you'll want the Step One patch to start.) You really don't want to go through the new-job freakout at the same time you're quitting smoking. There are a few weeks of a new job when you feel utterly confused, trying really hard to do it right, not doing it right about the same amount of times as doing it right, wondering if the boss likes you, wondering if you will ever get it, and... well pretty much freaking out trying to do it with ease.

And then there is the antsy, freakout of realizing you can't do with your hand what you're used to doing at these moments (the habit of smoking) plus true withdrawal from nicotine, which tends to make us jittery too. Both at the same time is over-the-top stress.

Get the patch, but don't get the gum or lozenges. (They give us the same satisfaction of the cig, even if we don't make it. And frankly, I'm just getting over that craving two months later, while I still smoke.)

Also avoid the smoking area. If at all possible, don't even find out where it is.

Congratulations. And I'll be praying for you to survive the first few weeks on both ends.
