I will be buying a small piece of land soon and will be putting some sort of "tiny house" on it (which may eventually become guest house or rental).

Just wondering if there are some here already into this ?

I don't think I could ever live in something tiny unless there was no choice. Even if I was living alone. My dream would be about a 4,000 sq ft house

How tiny is tiny?

Right now I have to live with my parents, so I don't think I'd care how small a house was as long as it was indeed a house.
(I'm through with sharing kitchens with slobs and walls with loud music :p )

Hang out with Derek Jeter; his house is 35,000 sq ft.

"Tiny" being in the eye/mind of the beholder........my Apartment is sort of a "Garden" style, or "Efficiency' style Apartment.

It is probably about 840 sq. ft. with a decent sized bathroom as well. It is "open." The living room and bed room are only divided by a 1/2 wall, and the dining/kitchen areas are combined into one, and completely open to the living room area. When you walk in, you can see all of the Apartment immediately..........except for the bathroom which is separated, and in back of the kitchen area. I love it. While only 840 sq. ft., because of how it is "open," it appears to be much bigger than it is. Easy to maintain/clean and such, easy on the eyes, and I actually consider it to be a GREAT BLESSING from God.

A smaller house is more economical.....less money on heating/cooling utilities, less square footage to "secure" or be aware of, less maintenance.

I knew a guy who lived in a big house by himself, and he payed a lot for utilities heating/cooling rooms he never used. Then he downsized to a smaller house and saved more money esp on utilities. Big houses are nice to see or "for show" but not practical/economical. You'll save money in the long run with a smaller house. I say if you can do a 800-1000sq ft style apartment/house you can save the most imo.

I do not know what that is a picture of you are using for your Avatar, and I am afraid to say "Looking at it makes me crave a pulled pork" BBQ sandwich," because, well, because I do not know WHAT it is a picture of. :)

It's pacman :) made from a cheese pizza. I learned the other day that pac-man was inspired by a slice of pizza missing from the pie! No wonder! But I love the game, I can only get to the mango/watermelon level before getting goblins on me.

Classic Pacman is better than pokemon go- you don't walk off cliffs or run into parked cars lol.

A tiny house seems like a huge coffin with amenities. No thanks. :p I'd go nuts.

Yes! I totally understand if it's an economic issue, or for camping out a week, maybe even for awhile if I were living by myself, otherwise give me space please!

Yes, I need lots of space! I'm tall, 5 foot of me is legs and I'd prob'ly knock myself out on a regular basis banging my head into low level ledges. It would be almost as bad as the sweatbox they show on those old prison movies, like Cool Hand Luke. gaah.png

I'm in process of finishing out a 12 foot by 36 foot portable cabin to turn into a permanent dwelling. More than adequate space given my lifestyle, and with a greenhouse of the same dimensions attached to the cabin via enclosed porch for pantry and freezer space, it will be more than adequate for me to grow the majority of my own produce yearly and have extra to sell or trade for proteins until I learn enough about animal husbandry to try my hand at raising chickens and rabbits.

Yah,

sounds like a gift and blessing to us, - would like to share that if you make your porch an all around one, 'screened'
then you will experience many more benefits that you can imagine...''

husbandry is actually quite easy, as long as you prepare to make the home for your animals
really safe, for you won't believe how many predators are in the back ground just-a waiting
for you to make a mistake in re-inforcing where they have to live!!! - but, it's a job that will greatly pay off.

hubby and I are old-hands at this kind of thing and have years of joy and laughter to go along with it...
so, the real labor we just don't let it get to us and usually try to make some kind of humor out of it...

we grow our own organic food, and it is quite a job, but we live in the far south and are able to have
a garden most of the year... -

GBY Brother, and may our heavenly Father bless you in all of your old and new endeavors!...:p:)

Most of the people I see on TV who get tiny houses are just losers who don't want to work.

My son turned his moms shed into a tiny house. He started when he was 14. He is almost 18 now. He has it wired for solar power. It is a 12 volt system that is ridiculous crazy.

I worked in the construction industry for 30 years. Building a tiny house would be so much fun. Finding ways to make it all work. My so is really into tiny houses so that got me interested also. How many square foot are you thinking of?

4,000 sq. ft. house....that's a lot of cleaning!!!! Been there, done that.....I prefer a smaller house, but not a tiny house, too claustrophobic :p

What I liked about going the route of finishing a portable cabin is that I save a lot of money doing the finishing work myself, and the initial cost of the structure was cheap enough to pay in cash for it, so no mortgage. Nice too that there are so many options available to the client, which is why I went with different options than the typical. For instance, I went with 2x6 walls 16" on center instead of the regular 2x4 so I could have additional insulation. I changed a lot of little things here and there to give me a structure I could at least start with. I'm definitely no carpenter, but thanks to the Time Life books I inherited years ago, I've been able to frame in my partition walls, run my own plumbing, etc. Pretty empowering.
