It seems like territory we're not supposed to dare say anything against if we disagree with this, so I thought I'd leave it as an anonymous poll. What do you think? And, this time you really don't have to explain your answers, because I know if you don't believe it, lots of people are going to give plenty of anecdotal evidence for their belief for it.

(My concern is no room to figure out choices for poll answers before clicking "submit," so I hope I get that option after submitting.)

Christians belong to God... we have the indwelling Spirit of God... no demon can stand against that.

Demons cannot possess a true Christian. They can oppress a Christian, and Christians can submit to them thru sin. Christians can break that submission thru confession, repentance, and rebuking them. But to actually posses, no, as we are possessed by the Holy Spirit.

I am not entirely sure but I believe this could be a good bible study subject. As for possession I don't think there is room for both the holy spirit and an evil spirit inside us but this doesn't mean I am correct. But clinging to us I think could be possible depending on what you consider a demon or evil spirit clinging to us being.

Even God's most trusted servants were plagued by satan not always because they were at fault, if we are open to the possibility that that sickness or pain or even harsh trials in life storms we go through that appear seemingly out of nowhere and for no reason could in fact be the result of a demon or evil spirit clinging to us to bring us down then yes think it's very possible.
While I am a firm believer of cause and effect and that many times our storms are from our own actions I also am aware that satan is always at work to bring us down in any way he can.

Not to mention the fact that the physical realm and the spiritual realm are in the same place yet very far apart and demons and angels or spirits if you believe that spirits exist are actually right here where we walk just in a different realm an unseen realm but a very close one which is why some who can see through the veil to an extent encounter demons or angels

Possession is not possible for the believer in Christ. The permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit precludes this. Demons are terrified of God and flee from His presence. But the believer can be influenced by the false concepts and doctrines the Satanic realm is constantly teaching the world. This is why the consistent study and intake of the Word of God is essential for every believer. It is the only source of absolute truth in this world.

I don't think a person who is obeying the Lord's commandments has to worry about demons.

Anyone following God and doing His work in this world will be attack either directly or indirectly by the Enemy in an attempt to destroy or discredit the person and their testimony for God.

First attack: tempt the person with their pet sin. Might be lust, gluttony, pride, sloth, jealousy, wrath of any other emotion that provokes the person into sin. (full grown sin unto death is being confronted by the sin, deny its a sin and not repenting).

2. Use those around the person to discourage their walk or work that God calls them to do.

3. Spread lies and slander about the person

Those are a few tactics the Enemy uses to attack people who do God's work.

He also uses hypocrites and predators to drive people away from God and His truth, by having them claim to be doing God's work when they are actually doing Satan's by stealing money, oppressing people with power they seized, claiming God gave promises He did not give them like earthly riches and no suffering. Or placing legalistic rules and requirements God did not required His people after the cross.

Demons are like highway robbers, they attack anyone who don't have guards that can fight them off.

God gives His children, angelic bodyguards, but some kids run away from their bodyguards; roll in the mud with the pigs and play with strangers who later beat them up when they run out of money.

1 Timothy 4:1 NIV:

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

----- end scripture----

So yes, if a christian decides to start dabbling in the occult or what not they can probably open themselves up to possession.

Christians are indwelt by the Spirit of Christ. Does anyone think He shares our spirit with demons?? Satan and his cohorts try to influence us, to tempt us, to try to fulfill our God given desires in ungodly ways. And I believe they primarily do that through the world system of things. And that worldly influence appears to be increasing exponentially.

Seems to me that being a Christian would be like painting a target on yourself for Satan and his angels to try and hit every chance they get. I've been listening to talks given by the late Father Malachi Martin, and he had an interesting perspective on obsession, possession, and perfect possession, and his numerous books he authored talk a great deal about the topic too, and it's kind of interesting from an academic perspective. What I "know" about possession amounts to nothing, so all I can do is parrot what I have heard and read, but I would think any soul not firmly in Satan's camp already is a target for him to try and get by any means necessary.

Why is there so much focus on demons for heavens sake. Who cares? If someone has a demon attached we deal with it the way Jesus taught us and go on. Good God

Seems to be my experience that if you're not being attacked by satan and his minions, they don't consider you or your walk to be a threat to their rule.

Because Christians are to be aware of evil that's around them. We live in a world of evil, and we have to be prepared on how to handle it.

Yeah but when demons start to become more important than God problems start. I am sure we all are aware that we are always in a battle and supposed to be in full armour. If we dont get attacked we are doin something seriously wrong. Everyone knows we are to be sober and viligant. Plus I can also lay my hand into the fire that barely anyone is ready to listen about demons being able to attach and demonise Christians and that it is possible. It sounds nicer to say no. This topic has been up many times and always ends the same.

Actually, I'm asking about it because so many are asking for advice and prayers because they're brand new Christians, think demons are attached to them or they're possessed, and the only way they can get those thoughts so quickly is because wherever they're going after being reborn is teaching them that junk. If that's not enough, the people on here are giving them advice and/or prayers that go along with, "Why, of course, a demon is attached to you." And, heaven forbid, anyone else give advice or pray as if that person should focus on God, not demons (which often are the cause for the person's problems and all the person's family's problems.) Personally, I think a new Christian should get out of a church if that's the first thing they're taught, but heaven forbid if I say that on such a thread.

Christians blame demons on everything where I know most of the evil things I've done or do are from selfishness, not Satan.

Since I think this, I'm checking if I'm alone.
