I don't know if anyone else is interested in this; my husband and I make it a point to try and watch these shows when they are available

The Perseids, the biggest yearly event of meteor showers, is promising to be the event of the decade.

I have been seeing some cool meteors around our home lately...in fact about a week or so ago, I saw the most fantastic sight...just as I was putting one of the dogs out for late night 'duty' I looked up...I always look up at the sky...stars were fantastic as usual; milky way, the whole kit...anyway...a big meteor was flashing right over the road...some distance away...a fireball, and as I watched it exploded into an array of rainbow colors...and just like that, it was gone. Wow!

anyway, if you are interested, read all about HERE great read for the novice star gazer

or, if you want to know more, try THIS SITE...American Meteor Society

HAPPY STAR GAZING!

There is a great phone app called SkyView for star gazers as well. Once you install it you calibrate the phone to your location then whatever direction you point your phone it shows you what stars are there as well as outlines of the constellations. Clicking on a star gives you some information on the star. It also shows the Hubble, the Space Station and their orbit paths. Also some galaxies. There are paid and free versions.

Thanks!

I filled in a report for the fireball I saw on the American Meteor site
