Post any other fun old toys, stories about them, etc.

I love View Master's! I have an interesting story to share about them. My Sister in law's Grandfather was one of the original people who invented it. It all started in Portland Oregon. She has a lot of the original cards and a lot of family photos on them, it's pretty cool.

Growing up some of my favorite toy's were, Sit and Spin, you did just that, sat and spun. Barbie dolls were my absolute favorite. I saved my money to buy those dolls and my Mom made the clothes for them. My favorite Barbie was Ballerina Barbie, you put her foot in this thing that would make her spin.

Those were my some of my favourite toys ever!! I remember we weren't allowed to use them all the time, so it was a real treat. Speaking of real treats, this was the other thing that I loved to play and that we didn't get to do all the time. (I know, it looks kinda primitive, but it was SO fun, and mom never told us that it was school!)

Spirograph and Cindy (The British version of Barbie) dolls, I had her dressing table, bed and wardrobe as well. I had a Tiny Tears doll too - I loved dolls and had loads of different ones. I really wanted a train set but mum and dad wouldn't allow it lol.

A post I wrote for FB on August 2nd.

When I was ten years old, Dad worked for Tidewater Petroleum. Some folks might remember Flying A gas stations. Others might remember the company that bought it out -- Getty. Dad only worked for them for a couple of years. They had an ad campaign called "The House that Worry Built." It featured a basset hound named Axlerod. The Flying A gas stations had promotional products for customers, and one was a stuffed basset hound. One night, Dad brought me home Axlerod.

Today is Axlerod's 50th birthday. He was my childhood stuffed animal. The one more precious than all others. He lives on a small sofa made just for him on our windowsill with his two buddies -- Pez and Christmas -- two bear Pez dispensers.

Happy birthday, Axelrod.

Just so you know, no one is alive from before phones. Ours were just connected to a cord all the time, (and some of us had party lines.) lol

Lol, yeah. I remember when we only had a house phone. My grandma would call and leave message. All her messages were the same. "Hello, any body home? Hello?" She'd say that about five times before she hung up.

I was going to say, "Remember when people used to 'yell' into the phone, especially on long-distance calls?" But, I just realized... they still do. You can usually tell when anyone in a restaurant is on their cell... the volume of their speech goes a couple of levels.

And, if possible, they start pacing around.

We lived next to cousins in a duplex before. I remember seeing a cousin's toy washing machine from an aunt abroad, no bigger than 6 inches high... their mom, however, displayed this in a glass cabinet, so we just looked longingly, wanting to try the machine when real washing macs werent much used in the homes either then. While my older sis' dolls were overused (and passed on to the younger), with tangled hair all trimmed and combed (pulled?) so they were bald in places... but we still took care of th baby dolls.

My favorite toy was Meccano. I'm not sure whether it was available in the US but what it was construction set made up of
metal parts you could build with using tiny nuts and bolts. You could make anything from trucks to bridges depending on what size set you owned. I spent some of my pocket money buying extra parts and ended up with quite an impressive set.
It is still on sale here but it is now a mere ghost of what it was like in my childhood.

That reminds me of an Erector Set. I had one and thought it was cool, but never really got around to building anything with it. I was more into legos at the time, which was nothing like the legos they have now.

here's a pic of something built from an erector set..
