Here i go again-). As i cannot read all of a long thread, i manage to read (and smetimes reread) parts that seem true and relevant. Anyway, not sure where to put detox tips for whether one is a vegan or not, i only came across some people here talking abt the importance of organic and raw foods, so maybe i am just appending here. Neither are we vegans, but if there was a way we could get more fruits and vegetables (to the 80-20% ratio with meats) that is said to be 'more healthy,' i would perhaps. Anyway, there's this cleansing book i held a few weeks ago, for we do live in a dirty world. There's the equation stress + high-fat/high-sugar diets = obesity. With the release of more glucose to fuel our fight or flight mode (the basis of stress), this increases our appetite, sending us to search these high fat or sugar foods that taste good and make us feel good. And this becomes dangerous since many toxins accumulate int he fat tissue, wc develop around the liver and pancreas, and around the waist.
Tips:
-Go organic when possible, for even organic fruits and vegs may have pesticide residue, but far less.
-Go natural, as having free range chicken, beef, lamb.
-Choose the right fish... those highest in mercury incl. marlin, shark, swordfish, tilefish.. Those low in mercury are anchovies, catfish haddock, herring, ocean perch, pollock, wild salmon, freshwater trout.
-Shop the perimeter of store for foods less tainted by preservative, dyes and flavors.
-Eat as many raw foods as possible. Even quick cooking can break down nutrients in fruits and vegs...Processed foods are also often a conglomeration of protein, carbs, fats and contain a variety of diff. sugars, each of wc requires different enzymes to digest. For instance, sucrase breaks down sucrose into glucose and fructose, maltase breaks down maltose into glucose, lactase breaks down lactose (p. 128, The Three Day Cleanse). [Many processed foods are simply loaded with sugar. It's said that for Kelloggs pop-tarts s'mores, there are 6 diff. kinds of sugar: sugar, hfcs, dextrose, corn syrup, corn syrup solids, lactose, and brown sugar...What for? Ans. To get us buying... and sick.]
-Skip sweeteners as best u can. Chem. sweeteners may have multitude of health-related effects. Hi fructose corn syrup also was found to prevent the brain from getting the proper signals that stomach is full and u should stop eating.
-Aim for whole foods like whole grains.
Now i can get rid of some notes and papers. Somehow, it is also said we remember better when we write things down and i needed to write-).
