I held a volunteer position for about 3 years. I'm pretty introverted so maybe volunteering as a cashier was a bit of a stretch. It was only a few hours a week but it also required getting up very early. I don't like getting up early if I don't have to. I could have asked for a later shift however the early shift allowed me to be there when it's not too busy. I did enjoy it most of the time. I would like to see if there is a volunteer position that fits more with the type of work I am trying to find. I guess what I would like to know is if there isn't a different volunteer position that's more fitting should I go back to cashier or see if I can find another business to volunteer at? Part of the issue is I know the potential for upsetting some people that could come from me no longer volunteering at this business. If there's anyone willing to talk more about this please send me a message.

Think outside the box. Volunteer in a hospital, nursing home, library, even a dog kennel. Expand your volunteer responsibilities as well. The more experience and versatility you have, the more marketable you become.

What kind of work are you trying to find?

Why do you want people to pm you?

I don't know. I guess I just thought that might be helpful. I'm sorry.

I just didn't feel comfortable sharing the whole thing on the forum. That's all.

Oh, Im like you, like for real I cant talk to people irl. When they talk to me I usually just smile without saying anything cuz I dont know what to say : p

But, I totally run register at work. Its not that bad! You dont have to be super social to do it, just be polite and smile : p The only things I say to people when running register are the same things I say to everyone : p
"Hello!"
"Did you find everything you wanted?"
"Do you have a rewards card?"
"Would you like to make a donation to (whatever it is were donating for at the time)"
"Okay, your total is __$"
"Heres your receipt, have a nice day"

Other than that, I dont really say anything at all, and when you say that to every single person it pretty much becomes automatic, like a second nature : p Its really not so bad. Dont be too nervous about it : p

And if yourve never run register before, some advice, take it slow and easy, and dont let yourself get too anxious. Stop and think if you need to, because you cant give the wrong change : p The less anxious you are, the better youll do your job, and after doing it for a bit youll get a bit more comfortable and pick up the pace a bit : p

That's what I've done for 3 years as a volunteer is run the cash register. I've run the cash register in a work setting too. Maybe burn out? I don't know. I want to see if the business has another volunteer position that isn't so much customer service.
