Anyone else here shopping for health insurance?

Anyone else here want to march on Washington and overturn the money changer's tables?

When I was dropped off Medicaid a few years ago (turned out it was a glitch in the system, I wasn't the only one) I went on the healthcare market place. It is not affordable. I make less than $25,000 a year and the best policy I could get had a yearly deductible of over $10,000. I still could go to the doctor but had to sign up for something or get penalized. Thank God Medicaid was changed and I'm able to be on that, but the entire system needs great improvement.

Thanks for the offer but do you know about Covered California issues? That would be nice since the Covered California people don't :(

Like : why do I have to pay for child medical coverage when we don't have children? It's included on every policy they offer. One rep said it shouldn't be, another rep said it's in all policies but included for free, when we all know the insurance companies aren't going to offer ANY coverage free (which means we're paying for coverage we can't use).

Then there was the issue about the website not allowing me to edit/update information.

Then, once a rep updated the information for me, he also (without my approval or notice) signed us up for our existing coverage to continue next year - When technically you can't sign up for any coverage until Nov.1, and we don't want to keep that coverage. The rep also signed us up for a county program we don't qualify for, again with no notice or approval from us.

Too, open enrollment is Nov 1 to Jan 31, but they say if we don't decide by Nov 7 they will automatically renew us to our existing coverage. Then somewhere else it says they will auto enroll us on Dec 15.

And now we're locked out of their system (so we can't shop and compare) until (supposedly according to yet another rep) November 1, at which time we should (again supposedly) be able to change our coverage.

The inmates are running the asylum!

Um I don't think you have a choice or not to pay for childhood medical care. I took a few medical classes including medical billing and coding which of course included medical insurance practices. It's horrible to have to pay for coverage you know you will never use, but I do know single men still have to have the maternity type coverage even though it's obvious they won't use it haha.

But I don't envy ya having to shop for medical insurance it's nuts, but kind of fun learning about it lol

I actually did learn a lot from that class. I wasnt a fan of Obamacare because I thought it was a huge mistake, however I came to realize the purpose of it being created was nothing but positive, but it was poorly executed. Don't get me wrong we are seeing a negative impact but we also need to remember we won't see it in its entirety for several more years unless they get rid of it.

I kind of wish I continued with the medical classes as I excelled in them, but going through the ICD-10 and the CPT was a pain in the behind lol

I'm supposed to call my broker at the beginning of November and start my second year on Obamacare.

Mine's been really good. My big problem was getting the government to approve my proof of income for 2016. I sent them everything they asked for but they wouldn't approve it. My broker just had my re-apply. Nothing changed except I was given a new 3-month period to send in the proof, and I could have kept doing that all year. Finally the government did approve me, a week after the initial 3-month period expired. Their delay would have cost me $550.

I had a similar issue last year. One rep said income was based on all income, another said it was based on taxable income. And I had to send in our tax returns twice. Guess we'll find out this April what is right.

I hadn't even thought about that. I just reported all my income, including social security. If I was wrong, I should get money back at the end of the year, I think.

That's how it works... under report and you owe more. Report too much you get some back.

There are other options than what Obamacare/Ryancare offer and a lot of the time have cheaper premiums

Thanks to Obummercare, health care premiums have jumped quite a bit for the last two years for postal workers. Luckily, NALC heath insurance is still reasonably priced and offers good coverage. I recently switched from Aetna to NALC and saved a bundle!

Unfortunately, NALC isn't widely available :(
