This Dead Kennedys song written about nationalism is about 30 years old but it is still relevant today.. this bands lyrics had uncanny political insight to have been written before the age of internet and social media

Great Wall of China
It's so big it's seen from outer space
Put there to keep starving neighbors
Locked outside the gates
What's changed today?
Empires hoard more than they need
And peasants threaten our comfort
We'll build a Great Wall around our power
Build a Great Wall around our power
Bankrupt L.A.'s streetcar line
So people pay more to drive
Plant strategic freeways
To divide neighborhoods by color lines
We'd rather pay for riot squads
Than pump your ghetto back to life
We let your schools decay on purpose
To build a Great Wall around our power
Another Great Wall around our power
Warlords in grey suits
Take a different route to work each day
Second-hand green berets
Form the companies' private armies.
We'll take all your gold
But won't teach reading or feed your poor
The League of Gentleman
Would rather feed guns to puppet dictators
There's too many people in your world
And refugees are expensive
When they trickled down onto our soil
We hunt them and arrest them
Classify them insane
And put them back on the next plane
To the waiting arms
Of the same death squads they fled
We've built a Great Wall around our power
Economic Great Wall around our power
Worldwide Great Wall around our power
Give us your poor,
Your tired and your weak
We'll send 'em right back
To their certain death

The wall is intended to keep out all immigrants forever? Wow. I thought it was just to help the flow of illegal immigrants, and to help with regulating immigration into the US.

Its one thing to not believe a wall will really help with illegal immigration. I can understand those who are skeptical that the wall will really slow down the problem. Its another to claim its "racist" or "hateful". I dont take that as a serious argument at all.

You make very good sense. (Unless, of course, I was a Liberal, dead-set on trying to change every word you said.)

In fact, Canada's first prime minister united the provinces to keep Americans south of the 49th.

I have said all along that Wall proponents are simply missing the opportunity to gain huge masses of support. There is far more dire reasons to do anything/everything possible to secure our Southern border. Illegal drugs being at the top/or near the top of the list. Illegal weapons smuggling. Kidnappings. Illegal criminal activities such as auth thefts, property thefts (electronics and such). Spread of contagious diseases a real possibility as most illegals have not been vaccinated against them. The overload on our Public Education System, our Hospitals, Clinics, Law Enforcement personnel. Some places are almost bankrupt having to pay for the "free services" the illegals receive.

The Feds say there is no problem with this, because the Feds are not picking up the check!

There is also the ecological damage being done to the borderlands. Huge amounts of trash are piling up in some areas, and very little is being done to clean up the mess left by illegals and smugglers. More than anything, this SHOULD fire up the liberals...........but, not so. Wonder why?

There is nothing racist about a wall. Also musical lyrics are not always factually correct either. Like the myth that the Great Wall can be seen from space. I have heard that myth before myself. Hadrian had a wall, the Chinese had a wall, Israel has a wall, etc. Not every wall is the Berlin Wall, which was indeed wrong. God bless. :)

In other news, twenty one years ago Bill Clinton spoke of taking aggressive measures to keep illegal aliens out of the country and deporting those already here because they put an unfair burden on the resources and abuse the system that was put in place to support tax paying citizens. When Clinton spoke of keeping out the illegals in his state of the Union address, he was applauded. Twenty one years later, Donald Trump gets called a racist for saying the same things.

https://www.c-span.org/video/?62882-1/president-bill-clintons-1995-state-union-address

Here is what Clinton said on the subject of illegal aliens:

"All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in our country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants, the public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more, by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens.

In the budget I will present to you we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace, as recommended by the commission headed by former congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years and we must do more to stop it." From the state of the Union address in 1995.

Yep, Bill Clinton got a standing ovation for that. Twenty years later, Donald Trump gets called a racist for wanting to secure the southern border. What happened?

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has estimated that 11.4 million unauthorized immigrants lived in the United States in January 2012.

The DHS releases yearly reports from which the rate of new illegal immigration can be estimated. The most recent data is from FY 2015. One has to combine visa overstays and cross-border illegal entries from separate reports.

For fiscal year 2015, DHS reports that the number of new visa overstays (not counting late departures) was 527,127

The number of immigrants that cross the border illegally each year are not directly countable, and are estimated from the number who are caught trying. For FY 2015, DHS reported 337,117 apprehensions. Using an estimated catch rate of 33%, the number crossing without detection would be 674,000 per year (2 successful entries for each 1 apprehended).

The rate of new illegal immigrants, combining both sources is 1,201,000 in FY 2015.

Haha, yeah Ive seen videos of Hilary being harsh on illegal immigrants in the past. But, you know, its trendy to hate Trump and call him racist in todays world.

Ive seen videos of Hilary saying that marriage is between a man and a women, and yet there are people out there calling Trump a homophobe. It really helps you see how these people dont really follow whats really happening, but merely stomp their feet and throw a tantrum when they dont get their way : p

It's a lovely song but...

If you study Chinese history, you'll find China built defenses because they were often invaded and attacked... with real armies... who killed their people all the way dead.. and burned their cities with real fire.
Genghis Kahn wasn't imaginary.

And the wall was built in many different sections, over many years, for many different purposes.
The building of the Great Wall covers an extremely complex tapestry of history... it can't be boiled down to a couple of cute lines in a song.

This is a lovely song... but... it just doesn't have much to do with reality or history.

If someone wants to draw an analogy from history....
they probably need to learn some history first.

You shouldnt let these emotionally driven "arguments" control you so much. I mean yeah, at very first thought, without giving it any real thought, the idea of a wall blocking the borders of our nation could seem mean. People over there needing a better life, us having a better nation, and us putting up a wall to keep others from getting into our nation.

But if you actually stop and look at the facts, it stinks that there are people in a poor nation just south of us, but we have our own problems to worry about, and it is absolutely not mean that we worry about our own nation and keep watch over who we let in, how many people we let in, ect.

Criminals and drug smugglers do come into our nation illegally. While a wall may not stop the problem as much as we think, it in no way says "no immigrants, America for whites only" or any of that nonsense. You cant react to everything emotionally without knowing the reasons behind the movement.

Oh, I recently learned that thats not actually true. While they do have some sections of their southern border fenced off, they do not have a wall. But some people in their government have suggested a wall.

Heres a bunch of other nations that have walls though-

How 65 countries have erected security walls on their borders | Daily Mail Online

This newspaper isnt in support of the wall, but at least they come up with real arguments as to not be in support of it (they claim walls dont work) over just saying "Its racist! There are people starving over there!" or whatever : p

Since we can't control Mexico's crime lords or drug lords, we need to wall them out.

I think if we tossed out all the professional welfare recipients who have 3-5 kids from 3-5 daddies, we would have enough money to put up a wall that make China's look like a fence.
