Earlier today, the college football playoff was announced with the top 4, respectively, listed as Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Washington. Alabama (1) will play Washington (4) and Clemson (2) will play Ohio State (3). The winner of each game will then face off for the National Championship. It was revealed that an 8 team playoff would have saw the additions of Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma, and USC. Because the Alabama - Washington game is less than a two hour drive, I'm considering trying to attend. The committee revealed that the hardest choice was awarding the 4th spot between Washington and Penn State. Penn State had a stronger schedule but one of the two losses was against anon-ranked team and they showed no competition in that game where Washington's loss was to a ranked USC.

Honestly? I don't care since Penn State didn't make it. (I'm also a Philadelphia Eagles fan, so having a tough... decade.)

But, got to ask you, what size shoe do you have? (Just checking considering your user name. Are you Big Foot?)

(PS You're new, so welcome to CC, and sometimes you shouldn't take me too seriously. lol)

We have to pull for Ohio State.

I don't get how Penn State can beat Ohio State, win their conference and Ohio State still gets in ahead of them. The Big 12 has been looked at unfavorably for not having a conference championship game, but another team can get in over a conference champion that beat them? It's not logical lol.

I don't watch much college sports and have no rooting interest, it just seems like a flawed system. An 8 team playoffs would probably be beneficial.

Even though I am a Notre Dame fan by birth, currently living less than an hour from Clemson, I have to say Go Tigers!!

An 8 team playoff would be ideal but a 4 team playoff is better than the 2 team playoff that was previously used for years. I predict that Alabama will beat Washington, Ohio State will beat Clemson and Alabama will beat Ohio State in the championship game. My team, Michigan would have played Ohio State under an 8 team format.

It's gonna be another undefeated championship year. The same is going to happen next year too. I'm not happy about this as I am a Wolverine and Spartan fan but that's just the way it is. The team is awesome and practically unbeatable.

It's definitely a flawed system because the ranking is based on the opinion of the chosen few. I would love to see an 8 team playoff. This is probably 5 years away. It will happen because it will be profitable for the schools and TV networks. A one loss Penn State team would have taken the place of Ohio State but 2 losses is hard to overcome.

I hope it does not go to an 8 Team Playoff System for the sake of the Players. These guys are not Pro Athletes. A few of them are on the cusp of being Pros, but the vast majority will never play Pro ball. An 8 Team Playoff would require at least two more games on the schedule. They already play 12 Game regular seasons, and if they are lucky enough to make the Conference Championship Game, that's 13, and then their Bowl Game makes 14 for most Teams, but the final two Teams play 15 games. Adding two more games puts that total to 17.

There is far too great a risk of injury for these players as it is. As well, they still have their Academic work to complete, and the additional practice time and travel time would take away from their time to fulfill their Academic requirements. And, THEY DO NOT GET PAID to play a Professional Schedule! :)

Just saying...........I don't think it would be a good idea for the players. The fans? Probably, but, then, auto accidents attract a crowd.......... :)

Yeah, when I heard the Teams selected, my first thought was "Hmm, they stuck it to Penn State." I wonder how much of their decision was based on the past problems Penn State is still working through? Maybe they didn't want the negative publicity that might have come had they chosen Penn State? Maybe?

I'll have to disagree. Division I-FCS has 24 teams in the playoffs and Division II has 28 teams, so I don't really see why 8 would be unreasonable. And other college sports play many more games than football teams do and more than just once per week, so I don't really buy the time issue either.

I would also add that they have an entire month off between the last regular season/conference championship game and when the playoffs start. Ohio State will have had 35 days off, Washington 29 days, and Alabama and Clemson both with 28 days between games played.

You ever play Division 1 level football? You ever been hit by a Mac Truck going 55 MPH head on? You have any idea of the physical toll suffered by those players? Do you know that Physical Medicine Specialists.......and I'm speaking of Doctors who specialize in that area, all agree that a High School student who plays football will NOT KNOW the full extent of the injuries they suffered while playing for 20 or more years AFTER they Graduate?

If you think Division 1 level Football is the same as NCAA Golf, Baseball, Band, Field Hockey, or some other Sport, then you do not have the slightest concept of what kind of punishment these Players suffer daily. Pro and NCAA Football are the most violent Sports being played in America today. With the Possible exception of Pro Rodeo events.

Now, you are free to disagree, but unless you have some "real time" experience playing Division 1 level Football, then you are only speculating. I ALMOST got to...........but I got my back, right knee, and both ankles blown out in High School. And those guys were NOTHING compared to the Athletes at the Division 1 level. Can you even imagine a man who stands six foot five inches tall, weighs 280 pounds, and can RUN a Forty Yard Dash in less than 6 seconds SMASHING into you? Not just once, but again, and again, and again, 30 or 40 or more times a Game?

If you think that I mentioned other sports to say that they demand the same physically, then I suggest you go back and read properly. My entire mention of other sports was directly related to the time issue, as I said lol, which was in response to you bringing up time for academics, which is why I listed the days off between games. I don't know how I could have made that any clearer lol.

Like I said, the other college football divisions, including the other Division I have way more than 8 playoff teams. Even if that means dropping a non-conference game, it can certainly be worked into the schedule. And I've been around sports my entire life, both playing and coaching, and have had relatives who actually did play college football, so no, I don't need a sports lesson dude.

the "time" factor and the physical factor are tied together............the "time" factor involves many issues.......class room time, study time, assigned projects time, meal time, down time, sleep time, practice time, workout time, film study time, medical issues time, and on, and on, and on............

If you have been around this level of Sports your entire life, then you should know all of this. These guys are not machines, or robots.............some of them quite often suffer emotional stress/mental stress issues from the various demands placed on them.

Sure, 8 Team Playoffs would make a TON MORE MONEY for the Networks, the Conferences, the Universities, and the Coaches, BUT it's the Players who pay the price.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to strongly disagree in favor of the health and safety of College Athletes. Any person/Administrator/Coach, whoever that believes an 8 Team Playoff Format will not add to the stress (both physical and mental) that College players experience does not deserve to be involved in the Sport, or any Sport for that matter..........in my opinion.

Apparently you and your family/whoever are certainly in need of a Sports lesson, and a reality check!

Dude...............It also appears, aw, never mind, what would you know about respecting one's elders and manners.....
