There are worse things to be addictive to besides the internet. I would ask myself if the time spent on the internet is helpful or hurtful. It seems that the times that we are living in almost require us to be on the internet for one reason or another. I like the idea of a time limit as it would train you to become disciplined in this area and perhaps in other areas as well.

I think you hit the nail on the head. This ever gnawing need to be "heard" when a scintilla of what I have to "say" is worth sharing, anyway. (Not false modesty, just good self evaluation). Sometimes, it feels like I am one of the people on a soap box in Hyde Park (if that is the right park) shouting out my so called profundities hoping some passerby might hear. It is addicting.

Thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate what you are saying.

I guess it's understandable to be addicted to internet. I used to spend a lot of time online and i don't care about my surroundings. It feels like when i am online, i can interact with people from all over the world and I can talk lots of things without being judged for not obeying the society values in this country.

However, my mom and I realise that it is not good to be online for like 24/7 so we kinda make an agreement. I have to make a schedule and to do list and i have to do all of my obligations. then when i have free time, i'll surf on the internet.

I also limit my time for playing phone and pc. I can only charge my phone once a day and it helps me a lot.
now that I am kinda free from this addiction, I can see the beauty in my surroundings lol

How's it going, galatea? As elisabet said, it is understandable-- and easy to be addicted to it nowadays. Honestly, there was a time i went online when i awoke in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep. But i had to curb my weakness and do something else.. get paper and pen/pencil instead, read hard copy.. If you are able to print something u want to read, u can not go online and still go thru some materials interested in. As others said, if ur into sports or other hobbies, that would be nice for ur health too. I get to read less now, so idk if u mentioned going into any of those, even sports for the mind or fingers: sudoku, crossword puzzles, handwritten letters ppl in nursing homes or prisons would still need and appreciate-), of course praying.

I guess I could go to another forum, but that's kind of just changing drugs and not really getting off the stuff. 6 of one, half a dozen of another it would seem. I'm going to put myself on a strict time limit after December.

This may not be the best place to post this question. I am addicted to the internet. My question is this, how do I best break this addiction- cold turkey? Just use it for work purposes? Or set myself a strict time limit? I tried this once before and it worked fairly well (the time limit thing). Is anyone else addicted to the internet? Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do about it? It's not anything bad in itself, just Christian forums, but I am spending too much time dilly dallying.
Well, if you're dilly dallying, then it's probably ok. Now, if you were lolly gagging or dawdling about I'd say this was problematic, but you're dilly dallying. Everybody dilly dallies. I've dilly dallied in public.

I guess you'd have to ask yourself what your real addiction is. Is it the internet or is it communicating? Is it gaming? Is it random searching for useless information (my weakness). Something else? I watch a lot of gardening/homesteading type videos and I can't decide if it's because I want to learn something or whether I just like watching other people work.

All in all though, I can't even believe how lucky I am. I mean, even just having a web computer puts me in the top 5% of the world's richest people. I'm sitting here in a warm house typing on a computer right now. Seems to me there ought to be at least ..... some responsibility with that. Some culpability I owe that God would entrust me with such a thing.

So, why do you ask? Must be something that would make you ask such a heady question, no?

"That's the spirit! Until then, you only have to deal with the 'procrastination' problem!"
