All in all, it's a pretty slick looking pistol. I hope Taurus solved the problem with a cartridge hitting the slide lock occasionally, locking the slide back before the mag is empty. I had to tweak the little lock lever to try to make it as goof-proof as possible.

Mine is just about 100% now... I haven't had a slide lock issue in the past 3 or 4 times I've had it at the range. I used to get them about once every 3 or 4 magazines or so.

I just might have to get one, and pass the TCP on to my wife.... although, she prefers a snub revolver.

I don't think she's quite forgiven me for blowing hers up.....:(

Yes. It was very exciting for a split second or so.

I was shooting some 38sp reloads that had been sold at some sporting goods store.... had their label on the box. A guy I knew gave them to me several years ago. I would shoot a few of them each time I took the .38's out to the range. I was down to the last 20 or so of them... I had shot two or three cylinders full of them through the model 64 Smith, then loaded the Taurus snub to shoot a few through it. First shot was like a grenade went off in my hand. I looked at the gun, and the topstrap was bulged almost to the breaking point, and the cylinder was in 3 or 4 pieces.

After checking to make sure everyone (especially the guy next to me, in the next "bay"... he thought I might be hurt) was ok, I started picking up pieces of the gun, and noticed my thumb was stinging somewhat... it split the skin of my thumb pretty deeply. I assume whoever loaded them was using a progressive press, and somehow double-charged one case. Guns don't like that, apparently. I was stupid to shoot them, instead of pulling the bullets and reloading them myself, but.... lesson learned..

I've got pics somewhere, if you want to see them...

Yes... I thank Him frequently :) What is that they say, He watches over drunks and fools? I wasn't drunk, but I was pretty foolish.. I'm pretty sure that what hit my thumb was half of the cylinder... although, it could have just been the blast.. The tip of my thumb is still numb to the touch. I was very fortunate.

And, I had shot some of these reloads through that revolver before. We've had it for 25-30 years... it was a good one. I need to find another one. I don't like the newer versions of that gun. I'll find one on one of the online auction sites someday, when I have the discretionary fundage.. or perhaps at a gunshow.

Those pics were about 5 minutes after the, um.. event. My thumb got quite a bit more swollen and purple before it got better...:rolleyes:

I've had people say "well, those Taurus guns are no good anyway".... but strangely enough, I had a friend in Lubbock that sent me pics of his Ruger SP101 that he had done the exact same thing to, about 10 years previous. He had done the reloading, and told me he used the wrong data for the powder he was using. It basically amounted to almost a double charge.. and it scattered the Ruger just as easily as the Taurus. Rugers are not known for being "weak" revolvers.... usually people describe them as being "built like a tank".. He was fortunate, as well, no serious damage to his person.

I have heard it said if we knew how much force we were releasing right next to our head when we shoot a rifle
we wouldn't do it, it's like a grenade going off right by our head.
A new cylinder, a little hammer and vice work and that Taurus should be back in business! ha!

No, I'm right handed... I was using a two-handed hold, and my left thumb was up by the back of the cylinder.

And I agree with the rifle thing... that's one of the things that makes me a little leery of the bullpup design. I know that is a well proven concept, but it still makes me go... hmmmmmmm....

Speaking of the bullpup design has anyone heard of the Bond Arms Bullpup pistol (originally the Boberg SR9s). It is a whole new generation of design for a pistol.

Depends on the bullpup. My Ruger 10/22 that looks like an FN spits brass right into the crook of my elbow. That's not fun if I am wearing short sleeves. I'll put up with it though, because I can absolutely WRECK targets with that thing.

I just noticed.... the aforementioned Taurus PT111 G2 that I have, and truly enjoy/trust with my life, is now on sale at Cabela's...

Wonderful, semi-perfect concealed carry 9mm for $199. That's about what I paid for mine, about 2 years ago. I need to win a small lottery... doesn't even have to be "the big one".... I'd settle for a measly $2-3 million...

I am contemplating buying a PT111. What do you have to say about it? Any negatives?

I too would like the lottery thing to happen, but my take on the scripture is that He will bless
the work of my hand, not the number of my lottery ticket.
So I just pray that wherever it goes it will not be a curse, but a blessing.
On the other hand, I will pray for your ticket, if you will pray for mine!

I have no negatives about it at all.... unless you count difficulty in getting the 12th round in the magazine... 11 rounds go in with no problems, but that 12th round is tough.

Still, 11 rounds is almost double what most small concealed carry 9's will hold.

Pros:
Very good trigger pull... almost "crisp"
Very short "reset" after firing, trigger only needs to move forward about 1/16" to reset.
Has a safety, can be carried with a round in the chamber, if desired... (cocked and locked)
Has double strike capability, in the event of a dud primer strike... just pull the trigger again to strike it again.
Good accuracy... not target level, but it's not a target pistol.
Dependable... mine has had zero malfunctions through over a thousand rounds. I've tried a large variety of ammo, with bullet weights of 115 to 147 gr.. I have not tried any of the steel cased stuff, though.
Ergonomically "right" for me. Feels like an extension of my hand...
Price... easily worth way more than it costs... maybe not quite double, but it could easily sell for $350-400.
Comes with two magazines.

Cons:
I have heard that people with long fingers find the reach to the trigger to be too short, causing issues with comfortable shooting.
The finish is black oxide, with the option of a stainless slide, I think. The finish is beginning to wear thin toward the muzzle of my pistol. Cosmetic only.
Nothing else I can think of....

Have you decided on a CC gun? If you are on a budget, you might consider the SCCY CPX2 or the Taurus PT111. Both have lots of good reviews and SCCY has great customer service. Taurus may be improving their customer service lately. Both are small 9MM. You can get the SCCY on gunbroker.com for $155 and the Taurus for about $200. You might also like the Taurus Spectrum which is 380 and should be out any month now.
