That and there are probably more after-market accessories for .308-chambered weapons.

I'm more and more convinced that the .308 is the way to go for a larger caliber.

Mind you I'm using a 9mm carrier's logic- lots of cheap, but effective ammo for practice.
Get a .300 win mag if you wanna reach out and touch someone.

I make my decision on things one gun at a time.

So far my research has served me well. I'm extremely happy with each of my firearms. Partially because I put so much thought into them.

The price on those reasonable?
For a solid 1000 yard round, it is. I've never bought the ammo off shelf, I reload everything. I'm in it about $1.30 a shot. Last time I checked on price at green top was before Obama was prez, and it was between 19 and 25 dollars a box.

That ain't too bad. I'll consider it.

Either way, I want a bolt action in wood or imitation wood. Mmmmmmm sexy.

I'm hard on a weapon, I can't do wood stocks. I scratch them up too much.

Scratching wood adds to the character of it. ;)
Not for sure this is true...

But I heard a fellow down the road from us had a .12 Guage Polk stalk that would jar your fillings loose. He put the butt of the stalk against a tree and squeezed the trigger and made himself a nice pile of toothpicks.

I had a .12 Guage H&R Topper model 158 that with a 3" mag almost knocked my glasses off my head. Kicked like a mule.

it was a shameful time in our nation's history.. the way those combat vets were treated. Breaks my heart..I've listened to too many guys describing what it felt like to come home to people calling them "baby killers" "rapists" "murderers"..... all of that for simply serving their country when they were compelled to do so. It wasn't a voluntary thing for the vast majority of them, believe me.
I have heard the stories. I was not there. I would probably not judge too harshly what anyone had to do to survive. However -- for whatever cases that may have been true -- I hardly think there was ever a reason - or, that it was involuntary - to rape...

Unless someone puts a gun to your head and says:

"Rape that woman / girl or die!"

I would probably have to consider "taking the bullet"...

Unless I was so thoroughly convinced that doing so would somehow save her life or prevent her from being severly tortured or something like that --- I just don't imagine that there is ever really a good enough reason to do something like that...

Kirsten Joy Weiss tends to pack a longer-range rape kit.

Okay, those are my two favorite internet range beauties.

Sadly, they both out shoot me. I'd have to work on some other manly talent.

Incidentally, I'm wondering if I should switch to an angled foregrip like Kirsten's. Anybody have experience with foregrips?

Nah. She's awesome.

It's like that old joke. When I was younger, I liked her because she's hot. Then I realized she could keyhole with a musket and shoot a paperclip off of my head.

I'm not going to say how much younger. :p

Oh yes, I subscribe to her youtube channel and follow her on facebook.

I probably shouldn't have admitted that.

I've thought about it myself. I've always used the broomstick style on my AR like the army uses. I have another build I have put on hold the past year and might try it out when things get settled. I'm doing one with a 15 inch keymod forend. People with those seem to like the angled grip.

Somebody told me the guys in the special forces are switching to the angled foregrip now. Apparently the broomstick was meant to be used more like a hand stop and not a handle.

Personally, I prefer the broomstick if it's more substantial. But I've never range-tested an angled foregrip.

The initial cost would be about the same as a bolt action .308

Check out the ballistics between the 300 win mag and .308 to see which would suit you best.

The .308 has almost no recoil compared to the 300 win mag. So if you are recoil sensitive you might think about a heavy barrel and a recoil pad. Or just sticking with the .308

I have a .308 savage with a heavy barrel and it is by far my most accurate rifle at 100yds. I have a 300 win mag remington 700 with a heavy barrel that I use for hunting. The ballistics are better and it bucks the wind better too because of the heavier bullet weight.

My hunting buddy has a tikka lightweight 300 wsm that weighs half of what my 300 win mag does but he can't shoot it accurately because of all the recoil. Something to think about depending on what you will use it for.
