I went to the range yesterday. I shot some targets. Didn't do as well as I would have liked. A nice two hours though.

    What all did you shoot?

A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work. lol

    I shot a Ruger hunter 22 and a Taurus PT111 9mm.

There were others at the range so I couldn't get close to the targets. I was about 25 yards away with both pistols and may have missed the targets with over half of my shots.

With pistols I prefer to be about seven to ten yards away.

Yes.... 25 yards is definitely a young man's game... you need lots of muscle/trigger control, and excellent eyesight.

Is the Ruger hunter a single action? I'm not familiar with it.... I know Ruger makes the Chargar "pistol" based on the 10/22, but most of the "hunter" series I'm familiar with are single actions....

I've had some single sixes over the years.... a couple of variations of the rimfire convertible, and two different barrel lengths of the .32 H&R.. I like them a lot. I wouldn't mind having another... especially in the higher capacity. That makes much more sense in a rimfire.

edit.... how are you liking the PT111? I LOVE mine. My wife is jealous.

The hunter is a version of the Mark III pistol.

I really like the PT111, tho' I have a problem with the trigger weight. I have to pull so hard the gun starts shaking. It is a real concern. I've been dry firing it with a snap cap hoping to loosen up the trigger some.

Something is wrong with it.... mine has a really nice trigger pull, probably about 5 or 6 pounds pull, with very little creep, and a pretty crisp break.

If there is a gun shop nearby that has a trigger pull gauge, you should get them to check it. If it's as heavy as you say, you should probably send it back to Taurus and get them to fix it. They are supposed to have a lifetime warranty.

Oh, yeah.... I had forgotten about the Mk series of "Hunter" pistols...

I have a Mk II stainless 5.5" bull barrel model. I've had it over 30 years.... very nice pistol.

Mine is a Mk III stainless hunter with a 6.8 inch fluted barrel and special grips. It looks a bit like a ray gun. I really like it.

I am sure it is more accurate than I am.

But it is still hard to hit a target at twenty five yards.

I've noticed something odd about the trigger pull - when I am at home dry firing it the pull is almost stiff but still acceptable. But when I am at the range using ammunition the pull gets very hard. It's a real puzzlement.

Maybe this winter I'll send it in for a checkup. Unfortunately I have heard bad things about Taurus customer service and it may take months for them to get it back to me.

Has anyone heard about the Taurus Spectrum 380? It looks like an intelligent gun design. I presume it should be out any time.

The Sccy CPX 3 is also a new 380 that has a new "more accurate" design for barrel retention. Does anyone know anything about it?

Yes, that is odd. Yours is the first one I've read about that has semi-serious trigger issues. Most reviews I've read on it seem to be either "the trigger is really nice" to " the trigger is just ok.. too short, etc..." I've never heard anyone talk about the trigger making it difficult to fire.

I have also heard some bad reports about slow turnaround with Taurus CS... but it is a problem they should correct.. waiting that long would not be fun, though.

I have heard about the Spectrum. It looks like it should be an ideal pocket-carry pistol for summer months. It appears to be much more rounded and snag-free than my TCP. If the trigger is the same in it as the TCP, I might have to try one out.

I haven't heard anything about the Sccy 380... but there are a lot of people that really like their 9mm's.... I need to check it out.

Natchez had a deal on 5.56 ammo, with a $60 rebate on a case, just came today.

I had a very close call yesterday, almost bought a Walther P1, it was in great shape, they had $379 on it.
Would any of you "pulled the trigger" on the deal?

I've always liked the P-38.... but I've never owned or shot one.

If I was more interested in collectibles, I probably would have bought it, depending on the condition, which you said was "great".....
