I got a 148 grain mold yesterday, it is a lee and stamped on the end of the box it is for 38 S&W as well, even though it is labeled as a .358 diameter.
I have access to Hornady Hollow base wadcutters as well.
I might be overthinking this, it's just for 600 or so feet per second loads.

I noticed that the NEW S&W M&P Shield 2.0 9mm was on sale at Bass Pro Shops for $419. Save $50. A Gunsmith on my mail route told me that he could get me that same handgun in the $300 range. At first I thought, great! He pulled that gun up on the computer and showed me it was $366. BUT that was HIS cost, then he proceeded to mention + there is his 10% commission + shipping and handling + tax and now the total is $450. Sounds like a salesman to me.

I might as well just go buy it at Bass Pro Shops, since he was not being completely honest with me.

Bass Pro is usually a little higher than other retailers, like Academy Sports, even Cabela's (now owned by Bass Pro)

You should check out any gun shows in your area... sometimes they have pretty good prices there, as well.

Personally, I think the Shield is a little over-priced anyway, for what it is. It is a low-capacity striker fired polymer 9mm designed for carry. There are a BUNCH of pistols that fit in that category... many of them in the upper $200's to lower $300's...

However, if the Shield "fits" you, that could definitely be worth a slight premium in price. You should absolutely get the one that fits you.

I was fortunate in that the gun that "fits" me was only $239 out the door when I bought it a couple of years ago. And, it holds 11 rounds. It is advertised to hold 12, but that last one is nearly impossible to get in the mag.... but it holds 11 easily. With one in the chamber, it would be a 12 shooter..

Out of curiosity, did you look at the S&W SD9VE? It's a really nice gun, and usually sells for under $300....my brother has one, and while he's not a "gun person" like I am, he says it's been really "worth it".

Yes... if all you want is plinking type loads the HBWC might be the easiest. They are usually pretty much pure lead, and should flare the skirt enough to seal in the slightly larger bore.

I have a couple of wadcutter molds if you wanted to try them.

come right into our immediate 'back yard', instead of keeping to the pastures..

we don't want to do this, but they have begun, after many years, to invade our privacy...

since our garden is in our immediate 'back-yard', I worry for hub, as usually, first thing in the
morning, is out tending our garden....

I really hate this, but there is no question that I will blow them away, if they act aggressive
towards him or me in any way...and yes, I am and can and will always be a killer to any 'threat' to
mine and to others...no apology's here... 'done deal'...and yes, I am a better shooter that he is...
please don't tell him this!...

I've killed in nature, when they have been a threat to us, many things, mostly 'rattle snakes'...

Just another reason to like you guys! You know, wild turkey breast is pretty good, smoked. I imagine it would be good just plain roasted, as well. I imagine the jakes would be pretty tender, also.

My wife and I recently visited a gun range and payed a gun rental fee of $15 to rent and use as many handguns as we like. We bought a box of 50 rounds (9mm) and tested out several handguns. In the end, we both agreed upon the S&W M&P Shield for price, quality, accuracy, comfort and conceal and carry. The Glock was really smooth, but we want a safety. The Ruger that we test fired jammed on both of us. My wife actually hit the bullseye with a baretta. It was a lot of fun!

The problem with a "safety" is that it adds confusion,
and another step, to the process of shooting, which
are things you obviously don't want in a crisis situation.

I'm still recommending you check out the Sig SP2022.
They're only like $500 and far superior to any striker-fired pistol.
It has a hammer and de-cocker instead
of a safety, which makes it like a revolver.
Revolvers don't have safeties because they don't need safeties.
So when the Sig is racked and de-cocked, the first shot is double
action and subsequent shots single-action, unless it's de-cocked again.

Anyhoo, everybody's different and likes what they like.
I just prefer to keep things simple, I.e., point and shoot.

Hodgden Trail Boss, made like little donuts, will fill the extra space as this was originally a blackpowder load.

sadly, no. All of my molds are just plain old molds, no fancy HP or HB anymore.

I've heard of people dipping the end of their cigar in bourbon (never saw the need to do it myself) so I suppose you could sort of smoke Wild Turkey.... I'd be a little leery of the 101 proof, though.... you might lose your eyebrows

Yes, a lot of folks like the double/single pistols. I have no beef with them... I can operate them just fine, but I've heard a lot of folks complain that having the first shot double action, and all subsequent shots single action somehow effects their accuracy... I don't have a problem with it, and I imagine that in a real-life shooting situation, nobody would notice the difference.

AND, having the first shot as a long, double action trigger pull could also be considered a safety factor. No "accidental" trigger pulls, under stress.

All of mine (except the TCP) happen to be striker fired SA autoloaders, but I would have no problem with a DA/SA type.

Sig's are really nice guns... I just haven't been able to afford one yet. Instead of one Sig, I have a great carry 9mm, and a full sized 9mm.

Actually, I'm sort of easing out of casting my own. I haven't been able to convince myself to just sell it all (might need it someday, know what I mean?) but I haven't really cast anything in a year or so.

Odd, because I had just set up my Lee pot with a thermocouple and PID controller to keep it at a consistent temp... works really well.

I'm just not shooting the volume of rounds that I used to, and I can buy plated or powder coated bullets for not much more than what I can cast them for.... especially if you consider the time invested.

I don't even have a BP rifle any more. I need one.

I have a TC Renegade, i've never shot, a Lyman, it isn't the great plains, it is the other one, both in 50 cal.
May or may not be to you taste or the timing of it.
keeps the thread alive and we are getting more joining in.

My previous one was a Traditions, .54 cal..... it was a thumper. I think it only weighed about 5.5 lbs.... ouch. With the Lee REAL bullet, it wasn't too bad, but with the Lyman maxi-ball, it hurt.

A 50 cal would be much nicer.

If you go that route, don't forget to include shipping (perhaps around $35) and transfer fees ($25 to $35 to a gun dealer in your area).

Have you held the Taurus PT111 Millenium G2? It is a good gun and you can buy a lot of ammunition with the money you save.

I also recommend checking Amazon for a laser. I "think" I got mine for $13+. I consider it a great asset for self defense situations. (Make sure your gun has a rail to which you can attach a laser in the first place. The PT111 does.)
