In this case, I think I'd make my decision on both style preference and what you'd rather have as a range toy when the trip is over.

Glock 22, with a 2.5lb disconnector and reset spring. Bear ain't that tough.

I was thinking the Glock would probably be more versatile as a home defense/ truck pistol...

Plus there are cool holographic sights you can get for it...

Making my decision more difficult.

If your gut's with the wheel gun, get the wheel gun.

But if all things are equal, give Austria a call.

Anyone armed with an AR 15 at that march was very likely a black man, as well, and were trying to get out of the line of fire. sorry but do you even think about what you write at the time of the shooting no one know who or where the shoots were coming from. And no it was white and black open carry folk. get your facts right geez do you just write things without thinking. fact they ran like cowards. hugging there AR 15's please save me aaahhhhhhhhhh just saying

In the woods I pack a .44 Redhawk, model 5026.
Nothing safer or simpler for the shooter than a DA revolver.
Bears are lightning fast.
If I can't hit it in six, too late anyway.

If someone was shooting at you, you would run for cover too! Doesn't take a genius to know that staying out in the open will get you killed... whether you have a gun or not!

You could always go with the Desert Eagle in .44 mag, it'll give you 8 rounds (at one heck of a price tag of course).

That's the one I would choose if money were no object.

But since it is...

It looks like it will be between the Taurus Tracker, Ruger Redhawk, or Glock 40.

Experts on what to do when shooting starts say to immediately get off the X. X being the area where the shooter is targeting. After that get your gun out.

I was looking at mags etc. until I saw a gel block with several different calibers including magnums. I was amazed that the cavitation and stopping point of the bullet were identical. Then I read that the police worldwide use either a 9mm or 40 caliber. Almost the identical size bullet. With those two facts I am getting a Ruger P95. A 9mm with a magazine holding 17 shots.

I agree. A high-capacity 9mm should be all anybody needs for self defense. A .45 might be slightly better at stopping, but when you factor in the higher cost of ammunition for practice, you would probably be better off with the 9. At least, that was my choice.

For the "bear" question... I'm pretty sure I'd opt for the Glock 10mm.

I imagine AFTER an event such as a bear attack, I'd be thinking more along the lines of a double action .454 revolver.... with a couple of speed loaders, just in case.
