I was in the van with my mom and brother's when we ran out. In the middle of town...you would think a gas station would be near by but NO. SERIOUSLY? IN THE MIDDLE OF TOWN AND AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE FROM A STATION!! Fortunately we were able to kinda coast to the side of the road so people could get by us while my bro's went to the gas station. It was one of those "quick, get to the grocery store before it closes, and THEN get gas" kind of things, and it didn't work out.

Oh, and that other time :) when you're in the middle of nowhere where the lil towns are 30 miles apart and you know the next one has cheap gas so you run yourself low only to discover they're CLOSED. Yeppers. Another 30 miles. We made it on fumes and prayers :D
I'm pretty sure one of the times I ran out of gas was right in the middle of the afternoon rush hour, in front of city hall, on a very busy street. That was when I was admonished to watch the gas tank gauge, which I did anyways, like a hawk LOL, because it did not work properly and I knew that :D But accidents happen!

don't think I've ever run out of gas, but once when hub and I had an old 'braum',
we had to ask for a jump about a gazillion times before we could get home...
way back then, I don't think we even got embarrassed...:p:cool:

I enjoyed the memories of things that didn't go as planned. Missing were some the things not mentioned, like speeding into town, turning of the engine and leaving the automatic in drive.......,until I got in town proper. I laughed till I was in tears when all that fuel in the exhaust system ignited. The explosion was do intense that I wondered if it was too much fun. I pulled over and examined the exhaust system. I couldn't believe it. The system was split apart, and nearly all of it needed replaced. ouch!

We filled up the tank before we left, but we're in Philly, and my cousin's wedding was in Albany, NY. Our car has a ten gallon tank. Oh, and, as it does from September 1 to June 30, Albany was having a blizzard. (Same blizzard. They don't have to do weather reports up there because it's always the same -- half a foot of snow every hours. Some exaggeration, but it was at least 2.5 feet by the time we got off the exit. lol) And as we get off the exit, John said, "Shoot. Never got any gas."

The car conked out in the gas station entrance and coasted to the pump. :D

I haven't cause I'm a guy, and I don't stop and ask for directions either.
Ut-oh. Man code? Nuts. How do I say I was driving the car when it was obvious no woman drives the car when a man is in it?

Surely running out of gas is more exciting than that! I had a '66' mustang. My girlfriend lived a little over thirty miles away, and it didn't seem to matter all that much, that it was snowing hard. About ten miles in, I ran out of gas. Because of the storm, my only option was to hitch a ride. Sorry, no cell phones. I hope someone had a better out-come.
Yeah. I usually drove my 67 Mustang on a quarter tank. (College student. Permanently broke is assumed. lol) For longer trips my passengers had to empty the change out of their pockets. lol

Me. Like, on the day after I got my learners permit. Stupid car didn't make the alarm noise, and I was too busy thinking about the road. Four miles both ways to the gas stations. Fortunately there was a nice man at a store across the street that lent us his truck.

I think that was the same day I almost killed me and dad. I never knew how calm a person he was until then. There we were, seconds from dead, and he doesn't even raise his voice. Mom would have died on the spot.
Wait? It makes an alarm sound now? Yeesh, next thing you know the car will verbally give you directions. This is outrageous. lol

Just once. I was a struggling artist. On my way to a competition (where I could actually win some serious dough). Fortunately there was a gas station right across the street. Unfortunately, I literally had 3 dollars to my name. It was enough to make it to the competition and back, but I didn't win. I did, however, make it into work the next day to collect my paycheck and then I could fill up my car!

we had a Toyota whose gas gauge broke. we knew we could go 300 miles on a full tank, so we always filled it and reset the trip meter.

someone (obviously not i, lol) forgot to get gas, or reset it, or something, and one day with three kids in the car, i ran out.

it was pouring rain, and there i was pushing the car while trying to steer it. (ugh)

so many men in trucks drove by.... looking at this 5'5" 115 pound female pushing a car.
uphill. both ways. ;)

God was with me, and i did get to a station. it's never happened again, and i freely forgive all those burly men who didn't stop. lol

Last year, (oo, oo, I can now officially call it "last year" so it is now a part of history, instead of present :)) When John was gone so long, I was keenly aware of how UNmechanically inclined I am. My ears and eyes came in tune with every thing that could go wrong with our car, ever fearful if it broke down, I knew I was on my own.

It's a 1995 (or 1994. I can never remember) Saturn with 10,000 miles on it. Funny thing, it had 69,000 miles on it when we bought it used a year after it was made. (It was a rent-a-car the first year of its life.) The odometer rolled over right around the time all hell broke loose. (I don't remember if it was right before or right after.) And once it rolled over, it stopped working right. The hospital and nursing home is about three miles from our house. The grocery stores are about one to two miles from our house. According to the odometer, the car hasn't gone over 100 miles in 14 months.

But the little odometer under it (the one that tells how many miles driven after a fillup) was working right... for the first four months. I was averaging 115 miles in between fill ups. (It helps to know, I've got mad -- as in insane -- skills in self-serving gas for my own car. I can't. I mean, I can, but the handle keeps cutting out on me so often that I fear I'll get the tank overflowing, so I stop after about 7 gallons. At the time, I didn't know it was me, and thought the gas gauge was broken too, and "full" only registered at 3/4ths of a tank. Ends up, it really was 3/4ths of a tank. lol)

And then right about the time John went into the nursing home, the "small odometer" stopped working too. Either that or a miracle was going on. From March 2016 to September 2016, I drove 9.8 miles and had to fill the car about once a week.

What changed last September? John. He reset the small odometer. Oh, and he taught me I was supposed to press the button to reset it 3 times. Bummer! I thought it was funny that I was averaging an eight of a mile on a tank of gas, and I was getting excited that the number might roll over to 10 soon. lol

I did once years ago on a highway

the gauge indicated I had a little more to get to the gas station before going home

had to stick my thumb out and trust God someone decent would pick me up...30 seconds later and they did and he drove me home

the neighbor said I read the gauge as E for enough...I always thought that was pretty funny

once was enough!

We ran out of beans a few times------- does that qualify for " out of gas"...
