This is almost me confessing I guess, but I need to get this off my chest.

If it wasn't made known earlier, I lost my job a few days ago. I had plans I had made, and, as a result of my failure, those plans have fallen in.

I know it's something that we always know, "actions have consequences." But what we don't think about its that they can have unforeseen ripples to others.

This is a small reminder especially to myself: whenever you make a decision big or small think about how it will affect others.

God can be pretty unpredictable in how he teaches us :)

I am sorry about your job :( I know what you mean; my mom would always say, "You never sin unto yourself." that has always stuck with me.

17 jobs in my lifetime. (I may have missed one or two, because some didn't last long at all. lol) I worked from the time I was 16, (I counted babysitting as one job, even though, most of it wasn't), until I was 44 (and I did count when I was self-employed.)

Got fired a couple of times. Once because they wanted to hire a new guy who was supposedly a seller's seller. (And God was there for me. I burst out crying when I went in to pick up my paycheck. The bookkeeper was the company's owner's mom. She felt bad. She talked to her son. Unfortunately, her other son made the decision to fire me. But because she talked to her son, he gave me a good reference I didn't even know I needed a year later. He was friends with the salesman for a lighting factory. That's how I got my first true bookkeeping job. And they knew I wasn't a bookkeeper, but they took the time to train me right.) The other time because the boss promised the cleaning lady my job and he forgot he made that promise. I was dumb enough to quit a great job in protest over the bosses not giving Christmas bonuses one year. Stupid part was I didn't even care about the Christmas bonuses. One of the long-term guys had set that bonus up for his Christmas money and he was angry he was short changed at the last minute. He stayed. lol

I was so gullible in another job. The owner, who, BTW, owned 700+ apartments in Center City Philly, wasn't really big on treating his employees or tenants well. I worked there for five weeks -- hired to be the maintenance manager, only to find out he managed the maintenance crew, but the bookkeeper was quitting, so I had to learn how to keep the books (tain't a thing I knew about how to do that, and it was the beginning of the month) in the week she had left, (didn't happen, and man! That sure did screw up the books lol), the real estate seller (lady who showed apartments) came in the next Monday hysterical because she literally showed apartments 24/7 the entire weekend, so she quit. Someone robbed the office. (I was the one opening up that morning only to find a pile of telephones right there. Apparently, the thief either didn't have enough room for the phones, or I interrupted the theft.) The boss hired a new real estate lady, whose biggest claim to fame was she was a hand model. Someone stole all the maintenance tools, so the boss told the maintenance guys that either someone had to confess, or he'd fire all of them. No one confessed. He fired all of them. A week later, the cops figured out someone stole them by climbing through an opening even I couldn't fit into. He rehired the maintenance guys. The electric company called and said that if he didn't pay the $50,000 he owed them for all those apartments, they'd shut down the electricity. I gave him two weeks notice. (Week Three. lol) And, as my final act, I raced over to the electric company's building to hand them that check (in the rain and it was 3-quarters of a mile away, oh, and I had 15 minutes to get there. lol) And ten years later, when I moved into the city, I learned the electric company does NOT turn off electricity five minutes before the end of the work day on a Friday. Gullible! I was so gullible. lol

And, I was hired by an ad agency by using one skill I learned before that -- I cold called him with my personally-prepared telemarketing script to make him a deal. "Hire me to get you appointments to meet new customers in exchange for teaching me how to do advertising work."

All that, and you know what I learned? What I did to make money has absolutely nothing to do with who I am or life. It gives me food. It gives me shelter. It pays my bills. It's a job. The place survived before me and might survive after me. It's not the only job in the world. If I screwed up? (Christmas bonus! Really! lol) Life goes on! You learn stuff. You forget stuff. You make friends. You don't make friends. It is just a means to an end.

IJAJ!

(It's just a job.)

For me, the is exactly why messing up hurts so much. To know that you are causing someone, especially someone you love, pain is a terrible feeling. This is a subject I've been contemplating a lot in lately, as I am going to have to confess a fault very soon that will surely hurt.

God bless you, sister.

"actions have consequences."
I remember learning this term in one of my business classes: opportunity cost. Every decision we make has a cost. If I choose to do one thing, then the other thing won't get done. It's not necessarily a negative term, it's just reality. There is a cost for every decision we make.

I'm so sorry you lost your job. I lost mine about 9 months ago now and I've been searching to no avail. I'm trusting God everyday to keep leading me down this path I'm on and he hasn't failed me yet. I love these verses: Ecclesiastes 7:13-14...

Accept the way God does things,
for who can straighten what he has made crooked?
Enjoy prosperity while you can,
but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God.
Remember that nothing is certain in this life.

Michigan is hard place to make it. I left in 1985 and things were already downhill. I will say a prayer for God to find suitable employment for you.

You are right in saying that there is a cost in every decision that we make. In the bible it says to 'count the cost'.

On a more positive note, my dh and I were visiting someone in jail He was relating what a day for him was like
Too much empty time on his hands etc. I told him wow time for prayer and bible study with no distractions. Didn't sound so bad.

Turns out that my little quip got him through a really tough week. He really took a casual comment to heart. Who knew? God that's who
