That's beautiful, Mar. I remember the choir singing this song in my church, too.

I thought I remembered this correctly, but wanted to make sure prior to posting. The writer, Charlotte Elliott, was an invalid and wrote it at a time of physical and spiritual suffering.

This is not a Christian song, but I love the forgiveness theme, and Don Henley
sounds so sincere and totally broken hearted in this song, as he seeks forgiveness
from someone he was in a relationship with. Possibly his best song ever :)

I got the call today, that I didn't want to hear
But I knew that it would come
An old, true friend of ours was talkin' on the phone
She said you'd found someone

And I thought of all the bad luck
The struggles we went through
How I lost me and you lost you

What are these voices outside love's open door
Make us throw off our contentment
And beg for something more?

I'm learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again

I've been tryin' to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore

Ah, these times are so uncertain
There's a yearning undefined
And people filled with rage

We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age?

Ah, the trust and self-assurance that lead to happiness
They're the very things we kill, I guess
Ahh, pride and competition
Cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put between us
You know it doesn't keep me warm

I'm learning to live without you now
But I miss you, baby
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I'd figured out
I have to learn again

I've been trying to get down
To the heart of the matter
But everything changes
And my friends seem to scatter
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore

There are people in your life
Who've come and gone
They let you down
You know they hurt your pride
You better put it all behind you baby
'Cause life goes on
You keep carryin' that anger
It'll eat you up inside baby

I've been trying to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me

I've been tryin' to get down
To the heart of the matter
Because the flesh will get weak
And the ashes will scatter
So, I'm thinkin' about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if , even if you don't love me

Forgiveness, yeah, forgiveness, baby
Forgiveness, ohh, forgiveness ahh yeah
Forgiveness, ohh, forgiveness
Even if, you don't love me anymore
Forgiveness, forgiveness
Forgiveness, forgiveness
Forgiveness, forgiveness

This one's not a Christian song, but one that is kind of sad. An unrequited love song.

Sometimes it takes a song to make us really listen to the message. If you consult a dictionary you might find the following definition for forgiveness:

for·give (fr-gv, fôr-)v. for·gave (-gv), for·giv·en (-gvn), for·giv·ing, for·givesv.tr.
1.To excuse for a fault or an offense; pardon.
2.To renounce anger or resentment against.
3.To absolve from payment of (a debt, for example). [SUP][1]

[/SUP]
Songs about forgiveness are a great way to reflect upon the grace and mercy that our Heavenly Father offers to the whole world. We are all guilty of sin (Rom 3:23), but because God loves us so much, He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus to pay our sin debt (Rom 6:23).

These 2 i know from the above link:

There is Power in the Blood (Lewis E. Jones)

A favorite hymn of faith talks about the powerful blood of Jesus. I think of Colossians 1:12-14 “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins” when I hear this one. Here are the lyrics:

Lyrics:Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you o’er evil a victory win?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
Refrain:
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the precious blood of the Lamb.
Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Wonderful Grace of Jesus (Haldor Lillenas)

Another favorite hymn sung in most churches, this one has great parts to it. Hearing it sung acapella with all the parts is a rare treat. Listen to the Cathedrals do it..

I know the two you mention, plus Grace Greater Than Our Sins and Nothing but the Blood. We sang all four at the little church where I grew up. Here is a poem by John Donne (one of my personal favorites) about forgiveness. This one is my favorite of his:
A HYMN TO GOD THE FATHER.
by John Donne

I.
WILT Thou forgive that sin where I begun,
Which was my sin, though it were done before?
Wilt Thou forgive that sin, through which I run,
And do run still, though still I do deplore?
When Thou hast done, Thou hast not done,
For I have more.

II.
Wilt Thou forgive that sin which I have won
Others to sin, and made my sin their door?
Wilt Thou forgive that sin which I did shun
A year or two, but wallowed in a score?
When Thou hast done, Thou hast not done,
For I have more.

III.
I have a sin of fear, that when I have spun
My last thread, I shall perish on the shore ;
But swear by Thyself, that at my death Thy Son
Shall shine as he shines now, and heretofore ;
And having done that, Thou hast done ;
I fear no more.
