could be true.... all the more reason to read Ulysses... dealing with Cyclops, and all that....

I think if we tried to read Ulysses, the club would disintegrate rather quickly. I have not tried to read it yet, but I have read that many people try to read it and give up on it.

We don't know that he is the only one eyed person here. There may be a whole cadre or pirates posting, for all we know.
i have eye surgery Tuesday. So do I get to join the band of pirates?

I'll keep you in my prayers. My nephew told me that the reason why pirates wear a patch was to strengthen one eye's sight at night. I don't know if he is correct, it was in a book he read. My rabbit has glaucoma and had to have an eye removed. My nephews were disappointed that my rabbit didn't get a pirate eye patch.

The people want thick books, so we have to give the people what they want.

The Little Prince is beautiful! Antoine St. Exupery :).

Would you like a copy of How to read the Great Books to give out?
Nah, I think we have enough collective brain power to figure out whatever the voters decide to read.

I hadn't thought of that. It seems like 1984 will be the winner- I suppose if there is a tie, we can just read the first one listed alphabetically.

You should read the real Mutiny on the H.M.S. Bounty. It's really fascinating reading. Bligh was an excellent sailor, and not totally the villain. His villainy was in not defending the innocent men who had no part in the mutiny. Christian had some gripes, but really wasn't justified in mutiny. He caused the deaths of a lot of innocent men.

I liked reading Maus very much. The author also incorporated his parents' lives after the Holocaust, so the reader could see how it affected them for the rest of their lives.

I looked up your signature quote. Where is it from?
Lol I never thought Bligh was the villain to begin with. Yes, I should read the adult version of that some time. I scarcely remember the kids version even. It was a very long time a go I read it. Just remembered that when you mentioned the Illustrated Classics. Another one of those I read was Last of the Mohicans, and I also read the real book of that too, one of my favorites. One of my very favorite movies too.

I might have to hunt that Maus down some time after I am done reading The Aeneid by Virgil and what is looking like 1984.

As for the quote, it is a Christianization of Rhapsody of Fire's Queen of the Dark Horizons. A song and a band I would not recommend to anyone whose faith is so weak that they will flip out over music.

It should translate to:
White Rose cries of innocent blood.
From the abyss she returns to scream the sentence.

I have not read Last of the Mohicans or The Aeneid, so you are ahead of me in reading.

I don't think not liking some music is due to having a "weak faith", only it is not liking something contrary to the word of God. I loathe and despise rap music with every fiber of my being- it is not that if I listen to it, I will lose my faith. On the contrary, my faith is in Christ- who is so strong, nothing can take my soul from Him. Because I believe in Him, I don't want to listen to music that degrades humans for whom He died.

I do not know if this makes sense or not.

Maybe we could get together on a live movie chat site and watch a movie.

Maybe so, if the people want to do that. Maybe after we read whatever book the people choose, we can all watch the film. Most of these books have a film version, I believe.

This morning o my way to work the radio station (CBC) had a program on
where they were talking about 1984 and its relevance to today etc, what
a lens literature becomes for us, looking back or looking forward.
