I would add as well, for those who haven't realised yet, the article isn't about coffee bars,
it's about people

Exactly! I'm not and the author isn't bothered by a coffee bar in a church, she was talking about pain, we all experience it. She's saying we don't need coffee bars to attract people to church, we need to reach out to the suffering and open our hearts, doors and coffee bars, lol.

Actually yes they do, I think people are so missing the point of the blogger on this one.
Its not saying that having fellowship and coffee are wrong at all. People will either get
what the blogger is trying to say (having been there themselves) or they won't.
It is quite apparent to me that a number of people who posted in this thread didn't bother to read the article linked in the OP (at least not with comprehension).

My reading simply saw that the author seems to belong to a country club church, and that possibly, she too, has been putting coffee ahead of living with and for others.

I suspect many threads in here would benefit from "aha" moments. :D

I can see it now: "You're sittin' here drinking Holy Coffee in a bona-fied CHURCH right now, and By God, if you think I'm just going to listen to you and become your friend over the next few weeks, have you got yourself another think coming!" "You're here to get preached at, and I don't care if you like it or not, I'M TELLIN' YOU ABOUT JESUS. Now shut up and get saved by me." LOL
Perhaps decaf would be a sensible option. :)

The post reminds me of John 6. Some people sought Jesus just to be fed by Him with food that perishes, verse 26.
Likewise, some people today gather with believers just to be entertained, no doubt.
Coffee perishes. And therefore coffee, nor any other perishable goody, is able to give our physical perishing body eternal life.
The wife is hurting. She ain't reaching for a cup of coffee to soothe her in her anguish and pain. Neither did her husband.
Jesus is the true bread of life. His words are spirit and LIFE, verse 63.

No coffee for me. I want the WATER Jesus gives. It will spring up unto everlasting life. John 4.14.

The general foolishness of thinking people who don't really want to hear about God are going to sit through an hour and a half of what, to them, has to be a long, boring service, for a lousy cup of coffee is ludicrous.

I submit that this woman, like most in her church it seems, never really forged any true relationships with anyone there. And now it is their fault, in her eyes, that they haven't come running to console her.
