Magenta recommended this one highly. She has excellent taste. I saw the Gary Cooper film, but I know the book must be much different.
Oh the film is horrendous. Rand pulled off the impossible task of breaking mankind down into 2 broad but precise categories called Peter Keating vs Howard Roarke.

Thank you, Galatea, that is high praise coming from you :)

I have not finished chapter four of 1984. I'm falling behind :(

I also did try listening to the audio version of the shack but could not get into it. It did not help that the narrator was a guy and started with the forward, and so I had no idea when the first chapter started or if I even got that far haha. I did listen for quite a few minutes, and then skipped forward a few times... audio version may simply not be my cup of tea. I have never done it before, either.

... I would have made them happier if I had dared to say that I have some Catholic friends.
I dare to say I have Catholic family members, so I trump your Catholic friends.
I not only have Catholic friends and family but was raised Roman Catholic,
and went to Roman Catholic schools from kindergarten to grade eight :D

That's too bad. Without an understanding of the Forward and of the After Words, you do miss some of the most important aspects of the book. In this case, they both are truly integral parts of the story.

Audio book is a format I had never really tried before, unless you count listening to Scriptures that way... which I don't :) I think I would much rather read a book than listen to it.

Me too. I only posted that Audio Book because I know some people will rarely even open an actual bound book, and prefer being read to.

I like being read to, it is very soothing but will put me to sleep :D

Here's an odd conspiracy:

1984 is the year GK Chesterton's Napoleon of Notting Hill took place.

Gabriel Syme was the main character of Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursday.

Orwell was supposedly fond of Chesterton. When I have a week or so to read in June, I'll have to read 1984 for more Chestertonian Easter Eggs.

Ahhh Chesterton. Every non-Catholic's favorite Catholic next to Pascal.
