Something pretty funny happened this morning..ppl being incspable of getting my name right.
I was on my way home after the doc and an older man yelled " good morning jassmenta!" And me barely having any voice because of my cold yelled " De-mel-za" back.
So then he yelled " okay Cementa! "

My name has been messed up many times. Am I the only one this has happened to

It's not uncommon for people to botch up my name, especially on the fourth letter. I honestly don't understand why people mess up on my name that much. Even teachers sometimes misspell my name as 'Sonya' instead of 'Sonia'. My classmates called me 'Sonja' so many times it's comical. But the funniest instance of someone misspelling my name was when the ICT people misspelt my account name as 'Sophia'. And I couldn't change it afterwards...

With my name being Drew, I get called anything that has an "ooo" sound in it... Doo, Roo, Boo, Bruce, Broo.... I've gotten to the point of saying, when asked my name, "it's Drew, like the past tense of draw, like, you drew a picture".... Usually they get it... then call me Bruce the next time they see me.... :D

It's comical at fast food places when you give your order, then they want "a name" to put on the ticket..... I've told them "Joe" several times, because I know that most people can read and pronounce Joe....

I have a Polish last name. It was Americanized when his family went through Ellis Island, so plenty of vowels where there didn't use to be many. The Americanized version makes it easy to figure out how to pronounce it. And, often we're the ones who say it to the person, so they can hear how it's pronounced before ever having to figure out how it's pronounced.

And yet! The majority who read our name just have to add 1-2 more syllables and a W into it.

I used to be a telemarketer. I loved Polish last names as much as Anglican names. Almost guaranteed I won't flub the name. All I had to do was pronounce it like it looks like it ought to be pronounced.

I have a unique first name and I have been called after a spice along with many other things.....I am actually quite nervous as to what my nephew will call me because kids his age have a difficult time pronouncing certain sounds, but I must say being called after a spice is my absolute favorite one :)

When I was growing up and my mother was upset with me, sometimes she would call me by my older brother's name.

In all my 64 years, you are the first Demelza I've run into. You should be pleased to have a unique name. Sometimes someone in the room has the same name I have, and someone will call out to that person, and I will say, "What?" which is always embarrassing. That shouldn't happen to you.

My folks named me after Robert E. Lee. Easy to pronounce and quick to get you into a fight in the wrong state.

I like unique names.... I find it interesting to hear/learn the origin of them...

OwzK, you could spell it phonetically for us?

If I read your name, I'd probably pronounce it uh WAIN...... but I'm a Texas redneck, so, there's that....
