So I hope this isn't improper. A thread was just closed. It was 30+ pages long and I came in on the end.I just got the truth of what the person was saying when the thread was closed. So here's the question, how do we know when a person is trolling? Ive called it before and been rebuked by all for saying so. So if you ought not to respond to a troll or trouble maker, what have you,how am I suppose to know who is or is not a troll? Any thoughts?

From wikipedia:
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[SUP][1][/SUP] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[SUP][2][/SUP] or of otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion,[SUP][3][/SUP] often for the troll's amusement.

So the troll does what?

~ Sows discord
~ Starts arguments
~ Upsets others
~ Posts inflammatory, extraneous or off-topic messages to provoke an emotional response
~ They're
amused by what they do

I know sometimes its best to have Godly men step forward to handle things to protect women and children whether or not the woman or child belongs to him. Men have the calling of being head of the home, right? What that means varies from person to person and there is some disagreements on that, but us women need to step back and allow them to do it and I see that with this topic as well. I find it very sweet that Willie wants to step up to the plate and help you decipher whether someone is good or not :)

We had this discussion a few months back, and I think we came to the conclusion that some of us are better at recognizing troll behavior than others. And, while we don't want to mistakenly label someone a troll who is genuinely seeking, but just socially inept, we also don't want to waste days and days arguing with someone whose sole purpose is to create and encourage arguments.

This is why some of us will mention that we are seeing red flags, to hopefully alert others that a poster is exhibiting the signs of "troll-hood"...

If you are talking about "The Born of God" thread, the person who started that thread started the same thread on BibleForums and it was closed down in less than an hour. The mod there had this to say about him. - "The guy is a well known troll who creates multiple accounts every so often."

There is one member who calls me a troll virtually every time I start a thread. Little does he know that I came out of from under my bridge just for him. Lol

I'm glad, RH, that you expressed my nosy intervention as an offer to be "helping" Kay do her own deciphering. I have my own opinions of people's intents, and I form them quickly. Perhaps sometimes too quickly. But, I only want others to see what I might suspect, and not be led down the primrose path by someone I feel is laughing at all of us the whole time. As long as I am content that another knows they are being fed a line....... but STILL chooses to continue with their efforts, fine. Actually, my hat is off to them. They are probably being more Christ-like than I ever will be.

This may sound strange, but my intention is rarely ever for people "trolling" to just leave. I want simple awareness and admission (on both sides) that they really came to cause some ____ , and then we all can drop it and get on with at least an attempt at rational conversation.

You're usually the one who calls us fools for engaging trolls, or else you tell us TO engage them because they might be sincere..Make up your mind..
