1) If you advocate civil liberties, political freedom, economic freedoms, and free market capitalism: you might be a classical liberal.

2) If you support free markets and private ownership of capital assets: you might be an economic liberal.

3) If you endorse privatization, fiscal austerity, deregulation, free trade, tax cuts, reductions in government spending, and increasing the role of the private sector in the economy: you might be a neo-liberal.

4) If you believe that government should address economic and social issues such as poverty, health care, and education: you might be a social liberal.

5) If you don't understand the different flavors of liberalism: you might want to read a political science textbook.
If you can spell "austerity" and use it correctly in a sentence, you should get a Masters degree for that alone!

Yeah, what this guy said.

We don't make fun of liberals because we're using humor to prove a point, or because we know they're cool and they can take it, or because they are easy targets, or even because it's all in good fun. We make fun of them for the same reason any group of kids makes fun of that one kid - because they are different from us. If I make a joke about liberals all my friends will laugh and agree with it because liberals are different from us and because they so often oppose us on so many issues that they have crystallized into The Enemy.

Yeah im a Christian and I sometimes make fun of non believers,I wouldn't say that I have fun doing it but there is a sort of satisfaction to it ,I guess thats because those non believers think that they are True Believers and do more harm than non believers with that assumption, but I am working on that.

Oh, pffft. In the very first post on this thread, it was obvious through context that this whole thing was aimed at one particular group of people under the term "liberal".

Yes there are many people who identify with the term liberal, who all vary in opinions and beliefs. Everyone here knows this : p Its the ones that have taken extreme views that are being poked at here.
For those of you who identify with the term liberal whos views dont line up with the ones posted here, good job : p Youre swell people : p

How to tell who is a real liberal and who is a real conservative? It's actually pretty simple. It turns out there's a lot more liberals out there than I originally thought. In fact some of the people who think they are conservative are actually liberals. Some common traits of liberals and conservatives:

Yeah, I avoid identifying with either of the terms myself because of that : p I dont want to tell someone that Im a liberal, just to have them believe that I support abortions, or tell them Im conservative just to have them believe that I want to do away with the legalization of gay marriage and all that.

When asked about where I lean, I generally say "I dunno", and if I have the chance Ill just talk about my views. I believe that people should be allowed to make their own choices, but I also believe theres a right and a wrong way to live. But despite knowing right and wrong, I dont feel it serves any purpose to "force" my lifestyle choices on others. So, Libertarian I guess? : p

As for the "extreme far left progressive liberal" crowd, yeah theyre pretty ridiculous : p
