for a while i have felt like im being called to be a minister but lately i've been wondering if it's the spirit who is calling me or just me telling myself i feel called. Does anybody know how to tell the difference between yourself wanting to do this or the spirit calling you? I feel like i'm supposed to and i want to but i dont know if it's myself telling me that im supposed to because i want to

... hmm... For one thing, YOU WILL KNOW that you are called. Even when you doubt it in your heart, you will feel what God wants you to do. I know when God called me, I questioned it at first... but after a while, your heart will become so consumed that you can think of nothing else but your calling! If you are trully called... sorry, but you wont be able to get away from it. :)

If you know anyone with gifts of the spirit ( tongues and interpretation or prophesy), I would go and ask for prayer from them. Make sure that they are not false though. Put them under the blood of Jesus and then you will know it is God speaking. Nothing is more assuring than hearing from the Father. :)

I have the same feeling, I came to the conclusion that God wants me to, I even dropped out of college. I had a passion for cooking and to become a Chef. But once I started going to Church, I lost my passion, almost overnight. God is my passion. You will know, God will make sure you know. Just pray about it, and ask him to reassure you. He will :)

People must watch out for their egos. It seems to me there are a lot of prideful people in the ministry. Make sure you are getting in for the right reasons. Don’t become a pastor just because you figure everyone will admire you if you do.

I strongly agree. Do it because you love God and want his people to be with him. We must have a love for the lost and spreading God's marvelous light into this dark world.

Fortunately, you don't have to know in the beginning. Most programs, if you enroll yourself in some kind of formation program, will encourage introspection and allow you to leave, with no penalty, if you decide you were just talking to yourself. Being with others who are interested in the ministry will help you clarify your own understanding of your calling and will let you pray in concert with others who understand your questions.

There's not a whole lost by investigating your possibilities and humbly accepting, later, that it might not have been your calling.
