I know some of you may see this post as a waste of space and unimportant, but I'm posting it anyway :D LOL. So, I've been dieting and exercising for a while now. With the Lord's help, I've lost quite a bit of weight especially since the summer. Well, I've started setting different goals for myself, I've reached my first goal, but I'm 23 lbs away from my second and I've been stuck for a few months. It's quite discouraging to be honest. I don't know if I need to step up my game on the workouts or try something else. Any of you have suggestions?

From May 2013 to June 2016, I lost 50 pounds. I've gained 10 pounds back. But I've learned the easiest way to lose weight --

EAT LESS!!!

It's basic math. For every 3000 calories you do not eat, you lose one pound. Assuming you are watching what you eat, you probably already realize you cannot eat 3000 calories less in one day. (You shouldn't be eating 3000 calories in one day. lol) So, 300 calories less each day is going to make you lose 1 pound every ten days. And it may not show immediately on the scales, but don't worry about that. There is also water retention and "daily constitutionals" that don't cooperate first thing in the morning. It's still one pound less.

Now, if you start counting calories, "the easiest way" becomes way too complicated, so merely cut back however you want to do that. Eating a meal? Take less of whatever you're eating. Snack time? Can you survive without that snack? Then don't eat it. Just gotta? Then measure it out less. (My thing is Frito's. I know the serving on the bag says "22 chips." That's roughly one hand of chips. I've been gaining weight since I've upped that portion to one-hand + a little extra. I've also been pigging out before I go to bed, which has to be the worst time for pigging out, since the body doesn't need many calories when sleeping, so it has all night to convert that to fat.)

Seriously, eat less. And be fine with losing 1-2 pounds a month. When Dr. Phil first became a TV show, he said to a woman, "This time next year is going to come whether you do something or not. You can either spend that time getting heavier or losing weight. Your choice."

For me, the next year came and went. I'm coming up to the fourth time it's coming again. Three of those times I could look back and see how much weight I lost in a year. (Three years and I lost 50 pounds, so you know it wasn't great strides. It was still losing.) I have to get back to "EAT LESS!"

The diet that I'm on seems to be the best one that works for me, although I am open to trying something else along with it. Thank you!

A true diet is one that you go on for the rest of your life.. You need a diet to sustain your weight after you end the diet you adopted to lose weight..

The process of going on an diet and then off a diet only leads to a lower metabolism and swings from losing weight to gaining weight.. People need to transfer from a weight loss diet to a permanent weight maintaining diet.. Otherwise they end up being as they where before the started the weight loss diet..

That's my plan, to make it a permanent diet. I honestly don't think it's the diet part of it, I think maybe I just need to find another workout or at least add to the one I have. Maybe push myself a little harder perhaps.

I'm very anti-diet. "Diet" means "I'll force myself to eat like this, until I get back down to how much I should weigh." And then what?

I can force myself to eat "diet foods" but so long, and my head stays stuck on "what I want to eat when I finally lose my weight." Well, gee whiz! What I like to eat is so not-diet, the only thing that happens then is I regain the weight I just lost.

So, I don't think "diet" anymore. I think, "new way to eat." If I'm not holding off on what I want to eat, then I'm not consumed with the forbidden fruit. I'm already eating what I want to eat, just less.

And I learned something, that I have to remember again. I always, always want more if something taste good! If I had my druthers, I'd eat something I like that much until I'm so stuffed, I can't eat anymore. But, even at that point, I STILL want more! Sooo, what's the difference between that and eating less but still wanting more? Only one difference -- I'm not getting fat eating it. lol

If you're on a diet until you lose all the weight, that tells me you're looking forward to the day you get off it to eat what you want. Try and figure out how to eat what you want now, but eat less. Then it's never a "diet." It's just a way of living. It's a permanent change, not a temporary one.

I had someone tell me that they didn't like the word "diet" because it has the word "die" in it LOL Anyway, this is a pretty simple diet. I don't if you've heard of the "S" or "Grandma diet", it's been called both. It's pretty simple, just getting through the first week is a little difficult, but it gets easier afterwards. I just want to get down to a certain size honestly. I'm also doing this for my health, not just to lose weight.

Without a excessive expenditure of calories preferably by exercise a diet just makes your body think that you are starving so you exactly the opposite results,it stores every last calorie that you consume in body fat,you know what bears do for the winter? Yeah that's what your body does with only a diet or a diet with a weak exercise program.

Do you remember before Oprah got older and FINALLY kept weight off BECAUSE she got older?she would come out on stage and say "I lost 5 lbs this month" then she'd put it right back on,that was because she was dieting without a serious exercise program.

The only way to ensure that you are expending excessive calories is by lifting weights,or starting with bodyweight exercises is good body weight squats are good and easy for most,I mean you know barring some physical preexisting injury or just being old but even the elderly can lift weights they just have to get cleared by a doctor.

If you love to eat than lifting weights is perfect because you NEED to eat a lot when lifting correctly,a good gauge of how effective your routine is be it just cardio or resistance is if you aren't absolutely famished pretty much all of the time then you aren't doing it correctly and probably wasting your time.

Green tea is great drink a half gallon a day with diet +routine.

People get put off by four-letter words. I think the two worst four-letter words are "diet" and "snow." lol

You can have ten people tell you ten different things and all of them may have some level of success immediately but then cause more harm than good in the long run. Weight loss is directly connected to your hormones. So many things effect your hormones. That's why you need to have a lot of info to assess the best plan for you. It may be you aren't eating enough, your digestion sucks, or you have food sensitivities.

One thing I do to keep my weight under control is STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR. Sugar has no nutritional value, so there is no reason to eat sweets. Moderation on junk food, like potato chips, is helpful, also.

I'm honestly not a big sugar person. Now I do love gummy candy, butterfingers, and red velvet cake, but I hardly ever have them lol. I can live without sugar I don't have to have it. I really don't struggle with excessive eating or whatever. I kind of wonder if it's my body's way of reacting to stress or like I said if I need to step up my game on the workouts to reach that goal.

The only two other things I can think of would be keeping fat intake to a moderate (or low) level and exercise. I would think a body reaction to stress would be to lose weight, not gain weight, since stress might cause you to burn more calories.

How about bread and pasta? Those react the same way as eating straight sugar. You might be right about the stress if that is a factor. What happens is cortisol causes your body to pull sugar out of your muscles into your blood. During this process the sugar can't be stored in the muscles. It can't stay in the blood so it gets stored as fat.

TTT - Things take time

I don't know neither what you eat / don't eat or how much exercise you do, but it all boils down to balance
- The more you eat the more you have to move to burn it off.

Try adding plenty of little things, maybe they will add up to make a difference.
i.e If you go up a few floors to get somewhere, use stairs rather than the elevator and If you are going somewhere that isn't far away (and you don't have to carry heavy stuff) walk, don't use a car/ bus etc.

try switching your workouts around

don't do the same thing every day

you want to combine cardio with weights and if you use weights, don't do your reps fast

slow actually will work your muscles much better

the body plateaus after a certain amount of time and you have to 'reset' it

makes sense?

not to bring down the wrath of Lynn, but counting calories is BORING

if you like to eat, and I certainly do, starving yourself is about the worst thing you can do

you just cannot cut out every single thing you enjoy

muscle weighs more than blubber, so go by how your clothes fit

I see you're 29. You should be able to get the goals you want and good on yah for all you have done so far!

Weight loss is NOT directly related to hormones. I was able to lose weight (and gain it) when I was a teenager, young adult, middle aged, and now. And honestly? My hormones flew the coop at menopause.

What hormones are you referring to exactly? Specifically thyroid hormones have a huge impact on metabolism. In order to make it you have to ingest, digest and process iodine. Most people think there is enough in salt but we decrease the amount of salt as we age. As well it dissipates from the salt quite quickly. Everything in your body is regulated by hormones. If they all flew the coup you would be dead. Like I stated before there are multiple reasons for fat gain. You have to isolate your reasons for proper plan.

You need to eat a healthy and balanced diet so that you maintain proper weight.
