Soooo.....I was in a car accident the other day. I have been dealing with the insurance company and busy making both a medical and auto claim (a real headache lol). Anyways, I am currently trying to find a good body shop that will give me the biggest bang for my buck and get my car fixed and be affordable. So please give me some ideas in what I should be asking and looking for to make this process easier on me. :)

One thing you might do that may help some --- is to check the Better Business Bureau... ( bbb.org )

Search for 'Auto Body Repair & Painting' in your area.

If you know a mechanic, ask him/her who they recommend. If not, I would look for an old body shop that has been in business for a long time. And I'd be weary of big chains like Caliber Collision because I heard they charge a lot compared to independent shops. You might also try Yelp, but be aware that sometimes positive reviews are fake (put there by family or friends of the company).

I'm Earl Scheib, and I'll paint any car, any color for $19.95. No ups, no extras

You know... when reading the title I was thinking of the Body Shop (you know the cosmetics / soap++ stores)
and I was thinking ... really, how difficult can it be to find one ? :p

Hope you are OK!

I'm glad that you are okay... :D

You are okay - right?

Yeah I suppose so. I have some repercussions from whip lash so I am blessed I walked away with just that because it could have been much worse :)

Easy one! Ask your insurance agents their preferences. This is what they do for a living, so they know the ones that are both cheap and don't make their customers go back 2-7 times for the same thing.

And then, Miss I-work-in-a-doctor's-office, don't forget to ask your boss what's the best way to treat whiplash. There are times when whiplash heals and there are times it doesn't. Just like car insurances know where to go to fix damage properly the first time, your doctor/boss knows what will fix your damage properly the first time too. Don't go all martyrly on this and think, "Oh, compared to what it could have been, this isn't so bad." I was in a car accident 20 years go and merely had a contusion on my left hand. It really was "merely." I'm very happy that's all that went wrong, but that hand is sore whenever it is bitter cold out. I now have my own personal bitter-cold weather-station on a hand. Who knows what could be, had I thought about going back for a follow-up?

Helpful hint from an older woman who now feels many pains I didn't think were a big deal when it first hit. (And there are quite a few people on this site who had "merely whiplash" many years ago but now it's a bad neck.)

(Picture Church Lady scold with good humor as you read this. lol)

I would think that a "big chain" operation would be able to charge less than independent shops. Of course, what kind of job they did would be a separate issue...

Well here's an update....I went to where I purchased the car for my first estimate and they told me $1600 and that was for a new bumper and grille, I talked to a friend of mine and he recommended one over in another town and that was $1100....in times like this it makes me wonder why did I agreed to a $1000 deductible? Lol. Then I think of the medical claim I had to issue for personal injury from the accident and that answers my question :)
