The last few times I tried helping a troll, I got called a fool and an idiot, from people on here who were SUPPOSEDLY my "friends".. :/ And that is precisely why I don't bother with it anymore. You try to help and get called names.. But it's par for the course on here..an everyday occurence.. :/
Doesn't the Bible say over, and over again, that Jesus KNEW (sensed or caught onto) what the tricksters were trying to pull on Him? And He didn't just blindly fall for it. He refused to go along with the bait they threw out for Him to take. This is part of what is meant when we are told to "be wise as serpents."

I was not trying to point out any error, just asking a straight up question. If it is obvious someone is up to no good, it seems a bit much to be expecting honesty from them, in my view. Saying anything to them is pointless. They will just deflect, deny, and do more of the usual. Usually haha. If a troll ever did come here and have a change of heart in the middle of jerking people around, that would be pretty amazing. I have never seen it happen. In fact, more often than not, some people (atheists for example) come here telling us how good their intentions are and even making promises of what they will not do, and yet we see soon enough that they really do not have good intentions as they start doing those things they swore up and down they would not do. The sad thing, really, is that it is to be expected of them.
A troll won't stay long where they do not get what they are fishing for. If everyone said "No, that just doesn't fly here, but I WILL talk about this other thing..." they will either leave, or hopefully, risk being as honest as they are able to be at the time.

...(I) try to help and get called names.. ...

I'm sorry to hear this, Blue.
Next time this happens, calmly ask to them to be civil and address you by your birthname...

BTW, your rep power is out of control.
...you must be stopped. :(

So? Stay in control, and let them know they are now on the wrong course.

They will do one of three things.

They will deny it, and sucker you right back into the conversation they hoped to control from the start.......
or
They will rant for awhile, hoping to snag someone back into arguing with them........
or
They might actually try to trust a little, and be more open and honest.

I hate to bring up this never ending subject again but here it goes. But Im coming at this from a different angle. There is strife all over the forums about how to deal with a suspected troll. One side says dont judge no matter what they say, others deal with them and call them out directly. People have different views and personalities. Why is there such a split within the forum? Why does it get so nasty? Members that have been here longer know a troll faster. But why so much strife over how to deal with a troll? Anyone have an answer?
Different people, different methods of dealing with them. Some people who are used to them and who have been targeted by them in the past are also angry at trolls in general. It may be different people who are trolling, but the hate towards them is still there and the blame for timewasting is still there, even for a different troll.

People in general are more emotional these days, as time goes by. So even the "warriors" who call out and "fight" the trolls will be horrible, they are only doing it because they have been hurt in the past because of other trolls. because people are more emotional as time goes by, the hate and the nastiness towards them increases.

I'd just say cos different people have different experiences with trolls and that's why they react in certain ways with them. While some don't mind them and push them further, others will get angry at them, try to argue back or mock them. Just different people's experiences determine how they act with them.

4th thing:

4. They will PLAY THE VICTIM, and start ACCUSING YOU of being a troll, for pointing out their behavior.

* This is very common, and very effective on CC.
The trolls know Christians will rush to protect a victim...
so they immediately turn themselves into a victim.

Sometimes they can split the whole forum this way...
it must thrill them.

I saw the thread title and, admittedly, got pretty excited. Then it turned out to not be what I thought it would be.

I think we should try to save the Trolls.

I guess it depends on the situation. We've had some serious cases here that had to be banned. But what I find upsetting is when trolls turn members against each other.I see that happening here a lot. And that shouldnt be.
