I don't think it's even made it up to a total of 30 hours yet. Really not much time, at all.

Seminary is full of professors with differing opinions. Who's right? You have to find a well prepared pastor who you can learn from, who you respect and whose authority you can accept. Listening to lots of conflicting opinions only leads to confusion.

Actually, true growth in wisdom comes from just the opposite. Listening to only one person might make you a good "cookie cutter" duplicate, but that's about all.

So listening to lots of different and conflicting opinions somehow makes you wise? All you are doing is setting yourself up as the ultimate judge who somehow can sort it all out. Good luck with that. You would already have to have wisdom to do that.

A man with the gift of Pastor-Teacher, who has gone through extensive training in many areas, and has reached a level of spiritual maturity himself, can advance his congregation in spiritual truth. His teaching will be consistent, systematic, and non-contradictory. Do I believe any particular pastor is always right? No or course not. But the Holy Spirit takes all that is correct into the soul of the believer and disregards the error. Obviously, the hearers as I stated earlier have to respect him, and accept his authority, and be faithful hearers. I am not saying there are a lot of terrific pastors out there, there are not. The good ones are few and far between. It is up to individual believers to find someone good to teach them.

You have a point there. It DOES seem to work well for the Pope.

LOL. The Pope is not a legitimate authority.

But let me ask another question. Why are you going off to these seminary classes? Mind you I'm not opposed to learning. But is it because your pastor isn't teaching you with enough depth to satisfy you and answer your questions? Maybe it's time to find one that can.

I remember when I was a new Christian (18 years old) and I went back to a church I had attended as an unbeliever. There were a lot of high school seniors, and young college aged kids who were seriously thinking of going to seminary or Christian colleges. Why? Well they no doubt had different reasons, but for most it was because they wanted more than what they were getting from the pastor. The pastor was not inaccurate as far as he went, but he seemed to have about a years worth of sermons and that was it. Some of the kids complained that they use to be able to take notes but not anymore. I eventually left that church (quietly) and found a much better pastor, who did in fact go into great depth, teaching from the Hebrew and Greek texts, and giving us more than we would have gotten if we went off to seminary.
