I was looking around to see if anyone had good Christian movies they had seen, and without "spoiler alerts" maybe give descriptions of their movie, maybe mention if they considered the movie appropriate for family viewing, and mention other details like actors, directors etc. Everyone's opinions on any one movie is helpful. I will begin with the movie SILENCE directed by Martin Scorsese. Actors, Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson. Jesuit priests travel to Japan to find their mentor who is rumored to have committed apostasy. Very intense movie NOT for the Children. I've heard the book is even more intense. Loyalty to Christianity was surely tested in the 17th century and the movie makes one wonder what YOU would do in defense of your faith to Jesus. Movie is very well directed (of coarse), and I recommend it. Anyone else seen it yet?

I haven't seen it, but I want to, thanks very much for your review. Another Christian film with Andrew Garfield was the Desmond Doss story, Hacksaw Ridge. This one is violent (WWII), so also not for children. Doss' faith is beautifully depicted. An old movie also about a real life Tennessee soldier is Sergeant York, set during WWI. These are both Christian films.

I liked these as well. Have you seen the newer one (War Room), yet? It was made by the same people and I've heard it had a good message...though the story maybe wasn't as powerful as Fireproof or Facing the Giants.

The last Christian film I saw was an indi film called Beyond the Mask about an outlaw who encounters Christianity, set during America's revolution. (though it also had some steam-punk sort of twists). Fun and inspiring action movie. I'd say it might be tense for children under 10, but I'm not the best judge of that :D.

Thank you mochi for this list , and I wrote them all down on my paper to watch. I understand you not wanting to give away too much info. In your preview, but could you point out ANYTHING about each of your movies like I mentioned in the first post ? I mean, I could get info on Google ...but for instance, in FACING THE GIANT, how did it make YOU feel? Would you describe it as a "happy, inspirational movie" or a movie that makes you think of your own past, or a movie that addresses politics in the world TODAY? Would children enjoy it as much as parents, like a family movie ? Stuff like that doesn't give the whole story away. Would you describe it as "hokey" ( I'm sorry, a lot of Christian film is just too mushy for me lol ..but those generally are good family films) or did the film make you " uncomfortable" like Passion Of The Christ ? (A hard one to watch but truth. All God's messages aren't there to keep us comfortable, right?) I have not seen even ONE of these movies, so I'm excited to watch them ! Thank you !

Facing the Giant: its perfect for family!!! its definitely happy and very inspirational :) its about faith and trust :) a bit boring at first (football) but its totally worth it to watch ;)
1 thing i love there when the wife said she will still trust God no matter what T_T now i want to watch that movie again.. lolol

Fly wheel about integrity at work

Fireproof its about a couple that almost divorce :p (not suitable for kids of course)

Faith like potatoes.. since this a bit boring i kinda forgot :p a farmer try to grow potatoes even when weather not good :)

The encounter: this!!! this one! errrr it has lot of story.. several people (with their own problem) gathering on a restaurant "last chance dinner"

I saw it in the theater, and was impressed. I haven't seen it again. I watched a documentary years ago about Doss, and thought "Wow, someone should make a movie about him." Lol, so I am glad Gibson and co. did. I'll post a link to the documentary if I can find it.

I loved Sergeant York, too. You can't go wrong with Gary Cooper, :) But I think they did a good job of depicting York's faith and his convictions.

You are very welcome for the recommendation. If I think of more, I will let you know.

An interesting note about Hacksaw Ridge... Over the course of 20 years, a number of filmmakers had approached Doss and asked his permission to make a film about what happened and he declined each time and said he didn't consider himself a hero. He also did not want to bring any attention to himself.

When Mel Gibson asked for his permission he said he would let his church decide. Well... we can thank his church. :) What a humble hero!

Thanks for posting. I am ashamed i didnt know abt Sgt York, said to be the greatest WW1 hero, and i didnt know=(. This the kind of movie my father would have let us watch... idk, maybe he did let us or older sibs, but i do not remember, so i took the trouble to see parts and havent finished yet, but i'm watching.

Ps. I remember my father and sibs too watching some old war movies, but i was quite young and didnt appreciate them much at the time, but later i did see some and much prefer them and the lessons taught than many newer action films=).

Hi Cerwin,

Here's a great website of old classic Christian movies. What's nice is you can watch them online!

I haven't watched any yet - I want to use my HDMI cord to watch them on the TV instead so hubby and I can watch together. Christian Movie Classics. I need a second cord.

We're huge fans of classic TV. We aren't font of a the sex/nudity and bad language in the more modern movies, so because we're awfully picky, it's difficult to find things we can watch. :).

I will 2nd the movie Sargent York!!! We own it because it's one we watch often.
