So for all you poetry writers I had an awesome Idea, what if we pick a random scripture any one we want and whatever the first verse says we write a poem based off of that.
For instance since David and I have always had a kindred spirit the first book in the bible that came to mind was Psalms and psalms 31 randomly came to my head and it reads as this

Psalm 31:1 1 In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. now from the top of my my mind I am going to write a poem based of this verse there are no set rules it can be as long or short as you want and any style you choose so here I go:
As a hen with her wings blankets the chicks she bore you my God have been my protection, in your love and your mercy when I was in my shame and wallowed in my image of misery you my God declared to my heart and to the stars above I will raise you to glory so you may radiate my own.

To you O Lord i gave my heart and unto you I gave my soul, a simple and insignificant offering to the king of the most high, alas though my offering I give in shaking hands is as a poor man giving to a rich king to you O lord it was the sweetest aroma. A crown you placed upon my head and righteousness you covered me in, a poor sinner as I am you O God place me to the right of your throne in all of your glory and your majesty adorned in silk and rubies and declare to existence this child is mine.

well I don't think that was as good as it could have been but you get the idea, I hope this becomes a very popular game as It not only helps us to write better and make poetry better but it glorifies God as well.

So my verse that I randomly found by going to a Random Bible verse generator online was Philippians 2:9-11

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

My 3-min poem looks like a mess after those divinely inspired words, but here goes!

Christ, name above all,
Highly exalted Lord.
At Thy name we shall fall
to our knees with one accord.
Heaven and earth shall bow to Thee,
Tongues shall praise Thy majesty,
Thou shall ever holy be,
All confess the risen Lord
Glory to God shall all afford.

Genesis 14:20
[SUP]20 [/SUP]And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
Now I will inscribe a parable for you, a little tale which I will recall.
Behold there was a land full of animals, and in the land a Lion sang
For his wife was with a child and for this his happy roars across the earth rang.
But there were some that were envious of the Lion's might; snakes and lizards.
And in this parable the reptiles they are usurers, witches, and wizards.
They hissed in the dark, "let us enchant the cub to make the Lion sell his mane
And when we have his mane we will enslave him in bonds to serve us tame."
So by their subtle craft they bewitched the cub and made the lion a deal
They'd loan for the cub's delivery if he gave his mane for surety and gave interest on every meal.
So the Lion whom loved his wife gave them his mane and agreed to their price.
And the snakes and lizards raised the usury to the heights.
They said to one another, "now at last the Lion is brought down,
And now at last over the jungle we hold the reign and the Crown!"

Now the Lion he commanded respect of all the animals and asked for their prayer.
With their mouths they gave him hope, but no real help did they give or bare.
But the Eagle he watched it all and he thought to himself a plan
So he went and gathered all the fishes he had that he can.
And he delivered the fishes to the Lion by the secret of his swift flight
That the Lion would be delivered out of this horrible plight.
So the Lion went and paid off his loan and took his mane back
And blessed the Eagle's talons to strike the serpents with his attack
And to devour their young with his sharp beak.
No more shall their bite hurt the Eagle nor make him weak.
So the Lion had his wife and had his cub and again was king
And once again across the earth his happy roars did ring.
Now the serpents fear double and hide in the dust and cower
Because the Eagle hunts them to catch them and devour.

1 Corinthians 2:14

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

To the one who holds the stars and gave life to land and to the creature within the waters and the birds in the air I sing a song and play a tune and I dance a dance unto thy name. For I praise you O Lord and I boast of your glory for you have hidden that which cannot be seen and neither can it be it heard. for the ears of foolish and eyes of blind which cannot fathom your glory boast of their own accord and lavish in their wisdom, they lead a rebellious generation by their illumination of their own thoughts and their own sight.

oh how deep the folly of such a generation for though the see they are blind though they hear they will not listen, who can perceive that which is given by the Lords spirit? Who can understand the echo of his voice that spreads across all of creation? Nay the spirit speaks of the spirit and the flesh speaks of the flesh for the lord thy God has ordained so before the dawn of the stars and the moon and the sun.
And so my God whom I have sung the song of my soul and danced the dance of my heart and played the tune of my voice I praise you in your wisdom and I glorify you before your throne for who has made the fools the wise men? and who has made the wise men the fools?

Also I want to give where credit is due, a new user by the name of Poems and prayer said this in her blog
I like to write poetry to honor God. Indeed for me, every Bible verse is the makings for a poem!
This right here was the inspiration for the thread so the credit for the game goes to her not me

Hmm, this is pretty good, but if I might make a suggestion, break it down into lines, lol, it makes it easier to read lol.

Hope you don't mind me bumping your topic with a double post. Just going to randomly open the Bible to a verse and see what I can come up with.

2 Kings 11:18

[SUP]18 [/SUP]And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.
Out of the sheath He draws and prepares the sword
The blade is excited and eager for war
The churches, the churches they have played the whore
So tear them to the ground and vex all of them sore
Rend their kingdom asunder until it is torn
No you cannot gather grapes out of a thorn
Gather the bribers, briars, liars, and all that suborn
And cut all of them down until they are shorn.
By reason of their doctrines they made many away turn
By reason of their divorces they let adultery spread without a concern
By reason of profaning Israel with idols by their fornications they brought on this spurn
So as they have done, do to them and profane their altars, upon them their priests must burn.
See Athaliah? See her screaming about her authority in vain?
Consider the terror in her heart as the Just King is ending her reign
We are glad to see her go, we are glad to see King Josiah, the crowd's cheer fain
And Jehoiada commands to set her forth and slay her out of the range

Nice! I've been considering that as well, but poetry definitely isn't a natural for me, so I've had severe writer's block and can't think of anything!

Jesus wept, for sin, you see
Hath taken prisoners of you and me

As Satan's reign did grow by night
The love of the Lord shone bright His light

Gathering, drawing, embracing all
The cross of God redeems the fall

I just coming back here to bump the thread with another poem but looks like I was beaten to the punch lol Also don't worry if your good at poetry or not it's not about if it's good or not

Mathew 20:27 -And whoever will be chief among you let him be your servant To serve or be served that is the question, can a man gain anything by serving others? And can he find himself in in serving himself not? For the one who wears worn rags and is wet from the waters of his work to you has been given a name and a title higher than those who have proceeded you in living their lives according to their own lusts. For they served not our of righteousness nor love but for appearance and honor, Oh the simple heart of a humble servant shining love and beauty in rags of dirt and scum.

For the servant of the Lord serves not for gain nor for a crown upon his head neither does he lust after honor or recognition and his works remain hidden from the naked eye, the Lord boasts often of such a servant and has prepared a place of honor and glory for him and upon his head shall be a crown of the finest material and the greatest of Jewels. The king searches the hearts of man and boasts in a humble and loving servant but detests a prideful and honor searching servant.

To you oh honor seeking slave the Lord has this to say- look to the one who serves out of love and compassion and who has damaged and callus hands and whom I find a heart of my own, watch as he lives not to own accord but the accord of my son and of my love. Listen oh seeker of honor for if you do not turn from your arrogant ways I will neither hear you nor know you and I will take what honor and treasures you have and give it to the servant who bears only wet rags.

To serve with a joyful heart is a gift that I bestow to those who ask and to serve out of love and compassion is a lesson that i teach to the one who seeks and the ways of the humble servant and the peace and joy that comes with serving is given to the one who knocks.

Therefore my children my spirit calls seeking a child who will serve on my behalf my love cries out hungry to inhabit a heart that will flourish. My servants are few and even fewer are known

This is not a poem I wrote, but my favorite song of all time. I see 'me' in this song...

I was a wandering sheep

I was a wandering sheep,
I did not love the fold;
I did not love my Shepherd's voice,
I would not be controlled.
I was a wayward child,
I did not love my home;
I did not love my Father's voice,
I loved afar to roam.

The Shepherd sought His sheep,
The Father sought His child;
They followed me o'er vale and hill,
O'er deserts waste and wild:
They found me nigh to death,
Famished and faint and lone;
They bound me with the bands of love,
They saved the wandering one.

Jesus my Shepherd is;
'Twas He that loved my soul,
'Twas He that washed me in His blood,
'Twas He that made me whole;
'Twas He that sought the lost,
That found the wandering sheep,
'Twas He that brought me to the fold,
'Tis He that still doth keep.

I was a wandering sheep,
I would not be controlled;
But now I love my Shepherd's voice,
I love, I love the fold.
I was a wayward child,
I once preferred to roam;
But now I love my Father's voice,
I love, I love His home.

In the beginning, God created the Earth and the heavens,
and roses are red.
But the perfection of it all was divided into elevens,
when two random naked people ate a fruit and their kids invented bloodshed.

I tried... :(
