I was wondering if there are any writers or even would be writers on this site? I have wanted to be a writer ever since I was a teenager. I actually had a small biography publish as a class project while I was in High School. Than I put it on the back burner and even let it die for awhile. About 5 years ago I deiced to pick it up again. Been reading some books on it and taking some Great Courses classes. I'm finishing up a short story.

Hi loneman,

My high school teacher told me I should take up writing because of a short story we did for class.

I write poems.

I've written a mystery novel, but that's all I've done with it.

Right now my focus is on studying the bible. Maybe at some point in the future I'll pick up writing again.

But the problem with getting published from what I've heard from Christian authors is that they want the content to be more and more edgy.

Writing shorts for magazines may be the best choice for me. I have considered writing a devotional. We'll see. :)

Best to you!

If I write poems, it always turns out dark. I mean, I can try and write something happy..... but..... it is just easier to do dark stuff. I suck at poetry anyway though xD

My poetry is usually about a work God has done within my heart through trials and suffering. But sometimes it's about creation or it's something biblical.

Like one poem is about a woman who was in need of a healing and she crawled up to calvary where the cross stood.

Have you tried to write in other genres? I could never imagine me doing fantasy or horror. I'm not really interested in those. I like mystery and there's an ex-cop in the family. :)

Nah not really. Fantasy is my JAM. I LOVE IT. Dragonlance, Middle Earth, I love it!

I started horror rather recently actually. I enjoy doing it. It is a tough genre to work in though.

The beautiful thing about learning to be a writer, is that it not only expresses who you are, but even as a Christian; it does it in a way that leaves beautiful color in the midst of those who get to know Him through you. It is an indelible beauty unmasked and laid to bare of the hope to which He has called you. It is a way for God to help those who need to take down the old pictures they have in their life, and replace them with new pictures as you paint them a Rembrandt of Spiritual truths and gracious beauty wrapped in a linguistic technique fortified; and packed with genuine love. I say, if God has worked it in you, have Him help you to work it out. Go for it!:p...

I try to write. I've written quite a few Christian novels, but apparently they are very bad, since I publish them as Amazon Kindle ebooks, and I've sold very few. I had stopped writing, but I've just gotten a new inspiration: writing political novels. My audience would be conservatives.

Business writer turning into a novel writer, which is something like saying, "I'm a rocket scientist, so I'll start doing brain surgery tomorrow, (except I'm not smart enough to do either, of course. lol)

I wanted to write a novel since I was in college, but finally started the in-roads when I became disabled in 1999. Didn't really start writing fiction until my early 50's, but then I had to do what you figured out -- learn how to write it. Started the novel at 55 and finished it at 59.

I was just getting my agent list together and my query. (Already had my synopsis.) And then hubby had a massive heart attack, which derailed "the plan" until yesterday.

Yesterday was the day we found out we're free to go about our lives again. (He found out his heart is fine for his age, so we are no longer holding our breathes waiting for the 999th shoe to drop.)

I have an MG (middle grade) urban fantasy. Seven volumes, by the time it's over, but being this age, I make no guarantees to finish it. First I have to see someone on the first novel anyway, and see if enough people read it to warrant Book Two.

I am Christian. I am a writer, but my novel isn't for the Christian market. (It's also family-friendly enough that it can be anyway.)

BTW, want any recommendations for how-to-write books? Mostly the ones I know are for novels, but they work at short story level quite often too. (Of course, short story writing is also quite a bit different than novel writing.)

When I was young I read Edgar Rice Burroughs and fell in love with SF fantasy. So my stories have some romance mix in with it. Usually the main male character is in love with the main female character and puts his life on the line to save her. She is often off limits for him. I always try to mention something about God in the story. I actually am trying to create my own world like Middle-Earth where a human is a savior to the Elves.

I'm writing my dissertation right now, but I hardly think it counts for much beyond being a very long, very dull, very academic paper that nobody will ever read.

I had thought about writing a book many years ago, but I decided that I probably didn't have enough to say to justify writing a book or maybe it was that I didn't want to share badly enough the story I had to tell.

I was writing a Christian book but I stopped because I just didn't feel the flow that I always feel when I write on cc or write poems. I mean I made up this game where I click on this random scripture generator and write a poem based on that scripture that shows up, i have yet to not be able to write a beautiful weaving of words, people tend to be surprised when they ask me if i spent all night writing it but I tell them it was done in ten minutes lol

I was writing Christian novels, but I couldn't sell any, so they must have been boring. So now I am writing a novel that is similar to the Christian novels I was writing, but I'm adding a strong political element.
