Is the smile unique to humans?

When a wolf shows his teeth,.,./\,./\.,.,

.,.,.,..,.He means business

When we humans show our teeth it’s called a smile

Is the difference an evolutionary thing and once upon a time we smiled for the same reason wolves smile today-?

is a smile universal-? Just asking :)-

Now this IS a smile--

I dont believe in evolution but my dog, pictured in my avatar actually smiles when she's happy. She doesn't show teeth she just pulls her mouth back like a human smile. Its pretty funny. The breed is known for smiling. So I guess its not just a human thing.

Some animals can appear to smile, but do they really have the emotion of happiness behind the smile.

Chimpanzees smile, and it seems like they have the emotion behind it,which animals can be happy,so I would suppose that some can express that with their mouth.

Which Chimpanzees have the most human facial expressions, and human traits, and they will stick their tongue out at you,so what do they mean, and they throw poop at people,so what do they mean, and they will grab the sides of their mouth and stretch it,and have playful activity,so when they smile I am sure they do it because they have the emotion behind it.

I have a cat that smiles when she scares people really bad, which is one of her favorite things to do,she'll stand like 18" away from a person usually on a table or furniture so that you see her in your peripheral vision so that you sense that you are about to be pounced on,i think that she can feel the spike of fear in a person.

I've always thought turtles naturally smile.

This one does it intentionally.

Animals experience basic emotions just as humans. Happiness, playfulness, sadness, hunger, sated, loneliness, fear, anger and others. Anyone who has ever had a pet can talk about how their pet expressed these emotions.

I had a beagle many years ago and she smiled whenever I petted her. Friendly dogs always do that. :)

People are animals.

The only difference between us and our brethren is virtue.

The reasoning why im saying this is because i saw this chick that had a smile that made my day,i kept thinking about her all day long and i felt good.

A friend of mine had a Rottweiler that smiled, teeth and all.
Normally when a dog does that it would mean RUN! ... but this was its way of greeting friends :D
(the entire rest of it's body was wagging :p )

praying-cat-desktop-background.jpg

"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray this cushy life to keep; I pray for toys that look like mice, and sofa cushions, soft and nice.

I pray for gourmet kitty snacks, and someone nice to scratch my back; For windowsills all warm and bright, for shadows to explore the night.

I pray I'll always stay real cool, and keep the secret feline rule; to NEVER tell a human that, the world is really ruled by cats."

praying-dog2.jpg

"The cat lay me down to sleep, I pray for my body not to leak; From fear I have of the fluffy beast, which is something I admit at least. Help me survive another night, as I wake-up to another kitty plight; but grace me up to one day say, I was the one dog you let rule."

girl_prayer_flag.jpg

"Lord, help my pet who frets so much, except the fact the cat is his crutch; Be what you would have them both to be; unless that means me cleaning their pee. Thank You Lord, for I love them loads, now give them peace as I put mice suites on some toads....AMEN!"

Of course there's a difference. Dogs wage their tails, Cats don't care, and people are expressionists.

We are seen by spirit and soul thus our gestures of spirit and soul are delivered and seen differently than other creatures with only soul and body and no spirit. : "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. (Matthew 6:22).

Human beings use their linguistic resources to produce new expressions and sentences. They arrange and rearrange phonemes, morphemes, words, and phrases in a way that can express an infinite number of ideas. This is also called the open-endedness of language. Animal communication is a closed system. It cannot produce new signals to communicate novel events or experiences.

Displacement

Displacement: Human language can talk about things that aren't happening here or now. Other animals react only to stimuli in the present.

Human beings can talk of real or imaginary situations, places, or objects far removed from their present surroundings and time. Other animals, on the other hand, communicate in reaction to a stimulus in the immediate environment, such as food or danger. Because of this, human language is considered context-free, whereas animal communication is mostly context bound.

Interchangeability

Human language is interchangeable between sexes. But certain communications in animal world are performed only by one gender. For example, bee dancing is only performed by worker bees, which are female.

I think animals as in the case of monkeys can express happiness in facial smiling less than a dog for instance where they
communicate mostly thru other means, I guess i didn't take this topic too seriously, but sure even despite the fact they are not able to understand all of what man can, or use other means in many cases some can and do express happiness this way.
