Why would a loving god strike anyone with mental illness? Physical affliction is horrible enough, but mental affliction robs a person of any ability to obtain any balance in life. It is cruel, and I don't see how any god but a cruel one would do this.

Many who know me in person would never know that for the majority of my life I've struggled with depression off and on. I do take medication for it and it helps. Actually my relationship with God has given me many years of peace. I was at my worst when I tried to navigate this life by myself. Getting to know God helped me understand why I'm here.

God doesn't punish us with mental illness or even physical illnesses. He doesn't say, well I'm going to let this one feel horrible and depressed, I don't know why I get like that but I don't blame God at all. I have had the same question as you, why would God let this happen? I don't mean myself I mean other things that happen in this world. I try not to let myself go there because my heart tells me that the evil of this world hurts God too.

I don't know why some people are born 100 percent healthy and others aren't. I can't really explain why that happens, but I don't blame God for that either. I wish I had infinite words of wisdom for you and I'm sorry if you're depressed, please know you're not alone.

God did not put that on anybody... the god of this world (satan) did.

So, kindly quit blaming my God for something your god did!

Hello TJHopeless
I understand it's hard dealing with mental illness or someone who is . One thing is clear suicide is not a answer. Reaching out is . Helping or getting help dose indeed work wonders . There are many that will help you or some one you care for . God our Heavenly Father dose help ,just ask . Prayer helps if your depressed and will help others if you pray with them . Several church congregations also offer help . I understand wanting to have some one to blame, it dose feel good to be angry but it lasts only for a short time . It's not the answer either. Please if it's you that needs help find someone to talk to an pray with . If it's a friend that needs assistance the same goes talk and pray with them .
praying for you

The things that happen IN this world are due to man's rebellion against God. Man wanted to be his "own" god and rule the earth EXCLUDING the One who created it AND him. Man brought the curse on this world and God is allowing the consequences of man's choice. ~ God gave man what they wanted and along with what they wanted, came the consequences.
Some of those consequences involve physical and mental illness.

I had my own bout with anxiety/depression disorder. It's horrible and I remember begging God to let me die. I, like Fenner, take medication for it and it has helped. God didn't "inflict" it upon me, but He does allow it as well as the horror and atrocities of this world. He is letting the world experience and witness the consequences of rejecting Him. After all, it wasn't His "unloving" act that caused the curse ON this world. It was "man"consumed with himself when he should have been consumed with God.

God loves you. I promise He does. Don't believe the lie that He is cruel and unloving.

I use to be suicidal, about 20 times. I was angry, that god would not release me from this world. I was raised around mental health issues. Than God openes my eyes, and showed me why I was going through things. I believe a treasure that comes, is becoming sane, in an insane world. I don't blame God for what man created. One mission I have in life, is coming out of the craziness. Breaking the cycle, by seeking help...Many hugs to you!

Though we fall, we shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand. (Psalm 37:24).

(Isaiah 43:2):

2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

It is not easy to find your way to God in a sudden crisis unless you have been in the habit of going to God about everything. The thing that rationalism ridicules is not a man praying to God when he is in distress, but a man praying to God when he is not in distress.

To the rationalist it is ridiculous to pray to God about everything; behind the ridicule is the devil to keep us from knowing the road when the crisis comes.

Jesus tells us plainly that He is the way, the
truth, and the life for us all; and that he is here to prosper us and not harm us, to give us hope and a future. And that this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. God has many promises to claim in Him.

But realize this too: if you have not yielded to Him yet, He is calling you...The nature of a crisis is that it takes you unaware, it happens suddenly, and the line you take reveals your character. A crisis does not make character (only Christ in you can use a crisis to make your character stronger in Him, as you walk thru it with Him); a crisis reveals character. Ask yourself: "Why am I holding on to things I need to surrender to God? What good has it been to hold a grudge against God?"

God Bless you richly my friend, I will pray for God to heal, and I will pray God will invest as He has already been investing - in the character of yourself to be able to stand in His grace in all things at all times in confidence and in His peace.

Depression is an emotion that God made to be a part of us. If you are depressed, its because you feel like there's something wrong in your life that you want/need to fix. Thus, figure out how to fix it. Ask us for help. There's no reason we can't give you advice on how to deal with whatever problem you are facing. All of us have been depressed before, so we understand not having any balance.

FYI, don't take anti depression drugs. Too many people in my family have said that those only made them more depressed.

I think one thing that leads to mental illness is decisions we make in our lives. If we are sinful enough, we can get ourselves into all sorts of difficulties, including mental illness.

The Lord, though, can comfort and fulfill anyone who has any sort of problem, including mental illness. However, if we don't turn to him and follow, we are left to our own devices.

Are you a Christian?

I often wonder why someone who has placed their faith in Him would question why He does this. I mean, its possible that He could, I suppose. But we also know that the enemy can effect us as well. I mean, in Job satan did many terrible things to Job and his family and livestock. In the Gospel there are many stories of what the enemy did to people, even causing them to fall down in seizure and foam from the mouth.

I never understand why its not possible to consider maybe there is something spiritual at work, that is NOT from God.

Your name is not what I see - Hopelessness; For that is not what His Spirit speaks to mine. God says,(and I'm paraphrasing) nothing is until it is; and He is the "is". If we pray and doubt (according to the Bible), our prayers do not beseech the Lord's ears. We must pray believing in hope.

Whenever we say a thing is impossible the reason is twofold: Either our prejudices don't wish it to be; or we say it is too wonderful to be possible. Make quite sure then (thru the constitution of your volitional will (in a right relationship with God)) and God does it. God can only do the impossible. In the realm of our human possible we don't need God; common sense is our God; we don't pray to God, we pray to our raised-glass of common sense.

"Until now you have not asked for anything in My Name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." (John 16:24). In Him there is nothing to doubt...Now, He answers all prayers but He may have in His will three options as well - "Yes, Not Now, or No" - all of which He is apart in loving you in answering your prayer. God loves you dearly, and if you hear nothing else I have said here, hear that - that Jesus Christ and God love you to a point of being spilt out wholly in that love for you!

"Job" in the Bible teaches us a great lesson: No matter what the circumstances God's character never changes for He is love. It teaches that while we live in the reality of the truth, it is also always true that God wants the best for us and that is an Eternal issue He has the supernatural power to accomplish as we trust in Him. I pray for the mental illness, but all things work out for good for those who love the Lord. I believe this and claim it for you!

Weighing the pros and cons for and against a statement of Jesus Christ's means that for the time being I refuse to obey Him. Life is a continual substitution whereby we realize that we have another day to spend out for Jesus Christ, another opportunity to prove ourselves His friends, and sons and daughters.

"Dear Heavenly Father - Give TJ Your hopefulness. Father I pray for the illness to be healed, yes, Lord for complete healing; and show Your glory in it. Give him a window of clarity and emotional calmness. Lord, I pray for his restfulness to be placed in your hands so that your peace and confidence and power can be allotted to him. Father, we all come to a point of helplessness in the means to an end in our own strength.

Father help him see that You are supernaturally wanting to give him hope and a future, and that You are not out to hurt him. Lord, ease any pain, and confusion, and disillusionments. But, rather, fill him with your real Spiritual truth and promises; help him to desire to claim Your promises and let your glory be seen in lifting him up, draw him to Yourself and set him free.

Lord, those of us who know You, know that You love TJ dearly, even to death on a Cross that You sacrificed Your life for TJ. Father give TJ a soul that is weak enough to yield to You, and strong enough to resist all other forces affecting him circumstantially and spiritually.....I pray these things in Your Name...AMEN."

"...I pray these things in Your Name."

Does making sure to end a prayer with those specific words mean that you have "asked in His name?"

it takes so much faith and courage to live in this fallen world -
to Love as Christ Loves and to forgive as He forgives and to obey
as He has commanded...
I praise and thank our Heavenly Father who has called His chosen
and elect out of the bondage of hell...

The god of this world is cruel. He wants people dead. He cares not how he accomplishes this. Thank God evil is restrained in this world. Believers are no longer under the rule of Satan, unlike unbelievers, who are in bondage to him. This does not mean that God is not sovereign. He reigns, and freedom is found in Christ.

Christ tells us that whoever endures to the end will be saved.

I think of these negative emotions as a trial. In all trials, we should reach out in faith to Him.

The things we endure in our life can absolutely be difficult, and even seem unbearable at times. But He can guide us through all things, if we trust in Him.

Making sure is a judgement that doesn't apply here. That is not a legalistic thing I do. It is a reaction to my sincerity. It is the realness of my prayer (being in Him myself) in Him honoring my words; respectfully praising (even in prayerful worship) that He is the one worthy of note in things being accomplished on earth and in heaven, as I am praying according to His will.

Does bringing this debate in a room which is meeting a persons personal needs, having it be a distraction, (even a diversion spiritually), make your spirit feel uncomfortable?

"I pray you see the point in those who in Scripture and even now pray in full submission to the authority of God...in Jesus' name for this is whom authorizes even all of my prayers...AMEN (let it be so)." Let's not debate whether we honor God too much shall we? That seems logical to you right?

Laish is right and something else you need to know is that whomever it is, isn't alone in their mental condition.

God offers a promise to those who are his children:

Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

And I'm confident, that even our pain, can't outweigh what God has for us.

Romans 8:18
Future Glory
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Hope never fails- Romans 5:5

Be encouraged, we may not know what you're going through, but know too, you have prayers coming your way.
