I hope this brings back "warm feelings" to everyone ... sometimes revisiting the "good times" in our lives, makes for a good start of the day.:D

My Best memory so far: "Seeing the ocean for the first time at 36. We went for our 18th Anniversary and when we walked onto the beach, I fell to my knees in TRUE AWE! I finally understood the "roar" of the ocean. Tasted the salt water. And stared endlessly at the vastness of it. The scripture about God holding "the waters of the seas in the palm of His hand" ... overwhelmed me." ~ It still does to this day every time I visit.

Hi JoDel,

I grew up near the ocean, but I moved away before I knew the Lord. When I go home for a visit and look out at the ocean's vastness I get a sense of awe at our never-ending God as the Alpha and the Omega.

I also feel that when I look out at the vastness of the skies, especially at night when we see the contrasting light within the background of its black canvas. Fireworks pale in comparison. :)

One time when traveling, my husband and I drove through a mountain range crevice. It was so awesome in its majesty it overwhelmed me. I sensed the fear of the Lord (the good sense of it).

I was like a grain of sand in comparison to the the hugeness of that mountain and the majesty of God enveloped me. Sunsets also fill me with awe and my eyes are glued to the masterpiece set before me.

I want to gaze upon His beauty and never look away. I see God as the master artist in all of creation and His creation speaks volumes of Who God is and what He's like. My mind can and does wander when I sit and enjoy the beauty of His handiwork that surrounds us each and every day.

When I'm depressed, all I have to do is go outside and watch the hummingbird in flight or allow the aroma of the floral landscape fill my nostrils. Or watch the ant as he's busy as a beaver or listen to the singing choir out my door as the birds sing praises to their creator.

I could go on and on, but I guess I'll stop here because now I want to step outside and spend some time with God, enjoying His masterpiece, Jesus our Lord. :)

You speak my "language"! I could feel and remember all things you spoke of as having experienced similar in my own life. From the simple and complex... Those in my family are cautious to ask me what I'm thinking... because, like you, I can go on and on and on and... well, you know what I mean! ;)

Night and day
Winter and summer
It is upon me -
This pulling longing (homesickness)
For the ocean

- Henrik Ibsen

......

Best memory?

Hmm..... Probably sleeping in a tent on the cliffs of Northern Scotland listening to the waves (and the rocks underwater churning).

I can't just pick one. Maybe two.

The first would be when I was about 9...my grandpa let me sit with him and drive. I'll never forget how hard he laughed because I was apparently insane...lol. I remember thinking how awesome I was while he was laughing his butt off in my ear.

The second would be when my son was born. Nothing else really mattered too much after that....besides him.

I honestly couldn't pick just one, God had been so kind to me :D.

Speaking of oceans, I love them too. As a matter of fact, my avatar is a pic I took a few years ago here in FL (US).

Cool memories btw guys!

Memories of taking pictures of trains passing through the village when a child of about 11 years old and I had bought a little 110 camera. OK, it took some saving to get pics developed. It was the peacefulness and I noticed that the village had a lovely feeling at that time. As it was before I gave my heart to the Lord I didn't know what the lovely feeling was. Many many years later I felt the feeling again when the Lord taught us (My parents, youngest brother and I) how to cast out demons. The whole area was clear and there was such a lovely peaceful feeling.
I then realised there must have been someone in the village praying and waging war on demons when I was a child. It was a lovely feeling!

Wow! I grew up in (New) Jersey and really don't have a love for the ocean. It's sort of like the corner of the block -- something nearby, but no big need to seek it out. So, thank you for bringing fresh eyes to something I took for granted.

Hi Lynn,

That reminds me of Johnny Jump Ups. I'm originally from the Northeast and was visiting my sister up there with me from the desert. In her garden she had Johnny Jump ups. And I ooo'd and aaah'd so much.......she finally asked, "what's the big deal?"

colorful-johnny-jump-up-plants.jpg

So I told her I was so excited because it took me back to memory lane ..... how we grew up with those all over the place. In the desert we can enjoy them for a very small space of time before it gets too hot and they wilt in the radiating sun.

She said the same as you about taking them for granted which renewed her joy for them. :) We do end up taking things for granted and it's nice to be reminded when we do so we can look at it with a renewed appreciation.

We've been getting a string of happy memories lately, so don't know how to absorb if those outdo earlier ones yet. (PennEd and friends helping us recently might be happier. I still get dancing jigs over that. lol) For the longest time, I thought my happiest memory was the day I got married. (Face hurt from smiling so much that day, but I couldn't stop smiling.)

I think last year's memory peaked that one though.

It takes roughly 20-30 minutes to get from the VA hospital and nursing home to here -- our home. So I made a series of songs that all had to do with going home to make that trip. The sun was shining. The trees were just done their spring bloom and full of that bright green color only spring trees can pull of just right. Needed some help from the staff to shove in the last walker and wheelchair into the trunk of the car. Already shoved personal effects into the back seat.

And then I found out the nursing home was planning on bringing hubby home in their van.

I'm so glad I didn't know that until hubby was getting into the car. I had dreamed of bringing him home for seven months, so I was bringing him home!

Now I was saying my goodbyes to the staff, while hubby was in the car. I'm not mechanical, so when the car got fixed a month earlier, the mechanics never restored the clock or radio stations. I simply accepted the clock was 7 hours 10 minutes off, and listened to the MP3 player, instead of the radio. Hubby's feeling proud of himself for fixing the clock. (Yay! I like knowing what time it really is.) And he had just set the radio to our two favorite stations and picked the one he wanted to listen to.

Ha! Didn't let him. I had the right music to go home with, so his job was to figure out what the theme was. lol

And man! He white-knuckles when I drive, so I usually don't like being the driver when he's in the car. But none of that mattered that day. He was going home with me!

The hardest part was not crying while driving. I was so happy, I had to hold my face in to not blubber on the Schuylkill. (One of the scariest, most congested roads around here.)

Best memory... at this moment.

I think absents makes the heart grow fonder. Johnny Popups (ha! Same word, different region lol) were so common where I grew up in Jersey. Then we moved, and moved, and moved. All sorts of places but the right place for Johnny Popups. When I went home to Jersey they were no where to be found. (When I lived there, they grew in the wild. On the edges of forest. When I returned, those forests had become developments with lots of houses, but no forest.) No where to be found in Philly either.

So that's one of those flowers I want to find a place for in my garden. Unfortunately, they need shade, and I only have shade in the garden when the blackberry grows. (It has to be cut back in the fall, so Johnny PopUp season is when it's too small to shade them.)

They are thrilling flowers, aren't they?

Yes, I like them better than the pansy, even thought there in the same family. They look a tad different and are so delicate looking.

And yeah, my sister had the forest behind her and there were some growing all over. Too cute on the Johnny Popups. :)
