Frankly, if we are truthful, most "Christian" songs aren't very good, when compared with the majority of music.

Can't argue with that, there's tons of talent writing, playing, & singing For Satan.

And they are very good..... but who's empowering them? I can't see God empowering someone to sing about adultery, killing, cheating, etc., etc.

Nothing wrong with secular music so long as it's
not advocating sin, but thanks for chiming in.

Yeah. I refuse to read those parts of my Bible. (God empowered the writing of the Bible, and all sorts of that stuff got into the pages of the Bible.)

Sounds good on paper, but for example, we all know Queen's not ''clean''. I don't know any secular group that is.

Gotta separate the art from the artist.
That particular song is clean.

Oooh here's a good'n:

Perhaps a monastery.... just kidding, brother.... but you do tend to take things to extremes...:)

But that's the problem...the advocating, celebrating, and promoting of ungodly activities.

If it's not that, it's dwelling on the negatives in life. "There's a tear in my beer"...

Speaking of alchohol and music, one passage of Scripture I try to keep in mind in my music choices...

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
-Eph 5:18-20

I've now posted five songs in this thread.
None of them advocate, celebrate, or promote any "ungodly activities".
They're just good songs.
But thanks for dropping in to post your legalistic opinion which
the performers of your parody song apparently don't share.
They obviously know that song well and paid a nice homage to it.

I've now posted five songs in this thread. And I didn't comment on a single one of them. I just made a general comment about secular music...a comment not all that different than I made in the 80's music thread.

But thanks for dropping in to post your legalistic opinion which Legalism is declaring music evil because it has a beat. I don't find that nonsense in the Bible. I posted Scripture. If Eph 5:18-20 is legalistic, then God's legalistic.

They obviously know that song well and paid a nice homage to it. They've taken 400+ songs and redone the lyrics. If you listen to them all, I'd guess you'd retract your comment as you'd surely not think all 400+ are worthy of "homage". About the only common element among the parody songs is that they are all of secular songs.

the performers of your parody song apparently don't share
They're attempting to reach the lost for Christ. Think it's safe to say that secular songs generally don't have that aim.

People participating in the 80's music thread haven't been nearly as hostile towards me as you.

That stated,

I didn't see anywhere in the 80s thread where you got preachy and legalistic.

Now back to the music.

I listened to The Boxer the other day. Paul Simon was awesome.
