In this small town, sales are hard. If I were in Los Angeles again, it would sell quickly
have you tried online selling?

it can work really well for some people

sure there would be a market for you

and for sure sales are dependent on population and what sells in any given market

that alone is an interesting thing :)

My wood burning, I do some plain, and others colored. Have not inlaid wood before, my colors come from using food dyes and paint. I like food dyes, as the wood grain shows through, which to me is beautiful. The glass...I draw picture on any glass, than use dremmel to etch. Done paint stain glass, but not authentic way. Done wood carvings too, oil paintings too. I also love crocheting!
This is my bedroom wall

Some crochet

Holy cow! That's wood burning? The wolf? Is that finding the different colors in one piece of wood, or is that dying it?

And how do you dye glass? The glass looks black. (Ah, stained glass. Quite possible the glass IS black. lol) But when you dremmel the glass it becomes white/light? Too cool. (Now kicking myself for never using that etching tool. lol)

And your butterfly/hummingbird wall! Reminiscent of my grandmother's stenciling abilities, (which she did not pass down to me at all. lol) Tell me that's not food dye! (What colors would make that color?)

Good day to see your butterfly/hummingbird wall! Yesterday I cleaned my old stained glass, (they were lost for years until PennEd and gang cleared out our house), and much to my delight, most of my stained glass I still have are butterflies. One hummingbird suncatcher in the group. (I want to put it all up on our new windows, but Ed & gang are coming back next weekend -- counting this as "this weekend already, since it's the holiday weekend -- to paint the trim.) I've been feasting (vision-wise, not eating lol) on butterflies and hummingbirds for a day now, so cool.

As for crocheting? Me too, but once everyone and their parents had either a comforter or a hat, I had to go with a different way to get my crocheting out.

Stuffed animal clothes and accessories.

My childhood stuffed bassett hound's pants. (I hope he doesn't mind the back shot. lol)

To medium sized stuffies' shirt and pants.

(Her back side too, but you can't really see the outfit, since she sits like a dog.)

To the little stuffies' jumpers.

Trousers with straps for Teddy T. Bear.

And a teddy bear holder, so I don't have to carry them all the time.

Now I'm working on a bag, so hubby can carry out the music, clock, and whatever he wants to the garden in one trip.

The problem with selling is most people only buy what they need, and then expect a cheap price.

Crafting isn't a need. (Art isn't a need.) So, people would expect to pay $10 for something that takes weeks or months to made, because the material it's made from is half that price.

I considered making stained glass for profit, until I talked to the guy who owned the store/studio. He sold his beautiful work for $1 per piece of glass plus X per square foot. (Been so long, I can't remember what a square foot was.)

I took the math the other way, and counted how long it took me to do the project. I would have been paid $.10 an hour! I could make more money begging on any street corner. And I could have gone faster, but... yeesh! I don't like rushing fun! I prefer rushing chores to get to the fun part. lol

How did you figure out which stains match what color was in your head? The problem I have with wood stain is the color changes from the time you spread it to the time it dries. It's either darker or lighter then what was going on in my head.

And the gold and copper? What did you use for them? (I'm picturing everything from watercolor -- which I know is probably not right -- to real gold and copper. lol)

I love crocheting little girl purses, something special and unique...and I give them to those I see. One time, I did a poodle purse, lined inside with satin. Love the smiles, uplifted up in spirit. Many things I give away, love surprising many, it could even be a stranger. Spreading love

Very true about sales...been there, done that. I did have one lady say "Don't sell yourself short!", and tripled my asking price. Most others enjoy looking at them, than paying very low. You sound like me, with chores. Use to tell my kids when the complained about chores "You don't hate doing it, you love it..Why else would you spend all that time doing it?" "If you hated it, you would quickly get it done, so you can go do something you love!" lol

SF,

you are indeed a very talented lady, and both of us appreciate your talents,
just keep in mind, that we have seen 'both' sides of your talent...

Seeing this thread is about art, some in my family have made begging for cash an art form.
Allow me to explain. My dad used to foxhunt, no not the kind where they ride horses and say 'tally ho!', but take fox hounds into the hills and listen to them run foxes(they actually listen to their barking, I know it sounds odd, but I used to enjoy it, too) and once we were going hunting when we came upon a family holding up signs their house had burned down. We were riding with someone else and I was in the middle(single cab truck), and dad was on the passenger side. I noticed it was my aunt(dad's sister) and 2 of her daughters. I didn't say anything, just nudged dad in his side and motioned with my head. When they saw us in that truck, the two daughters took their signs and covered their faces and my aunt turned and looked the other way. They knew they were busted, but I never said anything. They were pilfering ppl out of their money and their house had not burned down, either.

Fast forward ~25 years later and my aunt is dead(died in 1998), one of her daughters is dead, at the age of 41, and the other daughter spent over 15 years in the state pen after killing a man by running over him. He had beaten her and she ran over him to get away from him, but then turned around and ran over him again...heard she did this 2 or 3 more times to make sure he died, so she plead guilty to a lesser charge and got a minimum of 15 years. Sad how horribly that family was raised. Their dad, my uncle, was a drunk and was killed in 1977 when a fell out of the back of a pickup and his head was ran over.

But some of my family are nothing but professional bums.

You could probably make a good living selling just something like this :) For online sales, you simply need to find your target audience. You are very talented. Well done!
