  • Yes. The president should be able to pardon anyone he wants to pardon, no exceptions.

Donald Trump has recently released an official statement saying that he has the complete power to pardon. Considering many of his campaign team (some of which are his own family members) and himself are under investigation and may end up being brought up on charges, and that Donald Trump is currently facing lawsuits, him attempting to use this power to help his friends, family, and himself would put the justice system in disarray. One of the reasons we have so many checks and balances is to prevent presidents and their associates from being above the law. So, if Donald Trump tried to pardon his family, friends, campaign team, or even himself, would you support him?

I'm not sure if I would support this but as president he certainly does have the power to pardon anyone he wants to. I don't believe that he could pardon himself though but this may be possible too.

He won't pardon everyone. He's too politically intelligent for that.

Just to be clear, the President has the authority to pardon someone for a violation of federal law. Also, there is supreme court case law that details that the person pardoned must accept the pardon, and the acceptance is an admission of guilt.

You are absolutely correct sir and are right on all counts. A president can only pardon a person that committed an offense against the United States. He cannot pardon someone that committed and was charged with a state crime.

Any person convicted of a crime should pay the price regardless of who he is or who he knows.
Personally, I think the power to pardon should not exist.

Hi Persuaded,

We have all been convicted of crimes as far as God is concerned. And He pardons all; conditioned on faith in His Son.

Our sentence was death and He commuted our sentence in full. If pardons didn't exist, we'd all be in trouble. :) .....just saying.....

But that is not how criminal justice is executed.
Citizens somewhat have this authority also. It's called grand juries and petite juries. Both bodies are comprised of citizens and can find an accused not guilty, even when all evidence supports a finding of guilt.

You are right and that is as it should be.
But, I disagree with one person having the power to over rule a jury's decision.
To many presidents have abused this power.

The fact that he's even considering it before the investigation is over is beyond ridiculous. And that he's even looking for ways to pardon himself... LMAO

BUT, a price was paid for our sin.
Jesus shed His blood as payment for my sin.
If Jesus had not paid that price, there would be no pardon.

And often, pardons serve to better justice. Most pardons are granted after the convicted have completed their sentence. Sometimes courts get it wrong. Some convicts just deserve the clemency.
