This is a poll mainly for British members. I'm reading a book about the possibility of big cats (lions, panthers, tigers, etc.) existing in Britain. I'm curious about how the average citizen views the matter. Is there a population of big cats in the wild in Britain?

My GF lives in Britain. She says it's a crock, but she lives in a concrete jungle.

I think it's reasonable to assume that if you put a bunch of exotic animals out into the wild, some of them will find a way to breed and persist.

Idk.

I believe there are. Back in the 1960s strict licencing laws were introduced for people who kept exotic Animals in Private zoos or residential properties. It is thought that some people may have let them lose rather than spending money and effort to comply with them. I am not talking about Cities but rural areas. There have been sightings of large Cats that could be Panthers. Also Dead Sheep have been found that look as if something bigger than a Dog was responsible

We do hear the odd sighting. There are also wild cats in remote areas of Scotland which are much larger then domestic cats. The pole asked if I had seen any in Britain and I have to say "Yes" as when I was young we went on a school trip to Bristol zoo. I remember (I was seven) when I saw some unusual insects and spiders in a building. I went to find a friend to show him. When we reached the place there was a low chain across the open entrance with a sign that said "STAFF ONLY".
My friend turned to me and said " What's a staff?"
I shrugged my shoulders and said "I dont know".
So we stepped over the chain and went in. We saw up close various spiders... A nice sized terranchela and the glass cages were open so at any time they could have leapt on us! No one was there. We looked and went out.
Was after we got home (Probably a day or so later) I asked my mum what a staff was!
I recalled the train journey there and back. It picked up many school children from many schools. Was long. 14 coaches long... Way longer then the platforms in my area. Back in those days the railways were government owned (And so are schools) so things were easier to arrange and also children were well disciplined at home and in school with the slipper or cane threat for the very naughty, so a few thousand children with about 30-40 teachers were no problem. Today they need one teacher or parent volunteer per ten children on bus trips.

I think it's only reasonable to assume they're out there...but I also think Bigfoot exists...not space aliens or lake monsters. But Bigfoot? Absolutely.

I've spent quite a few nights in a tent in Scotland and never seen or heard anything resembling it
...but then again, why would a smart cat approach stupid humans? :p

Tenting in Scotland sounds like some medieval punishment.
