While watching shows on TV, I've noticed that the commercials are becoming more and more inappropriate. Although the show that I'm watching is acceptable, I've been seeing sexuality, nudity, and greater violence in the commercials. It seems the content on these channels is becoming more lax than I've ever seen before. Do you think it's going to get to the point where we will not be able to watch TV altogether?

Yes well it has gotten to the point where I either stick to channels that I know will not have such content in their commercials (Hallmark, Food Network etc), mute out all commercials or just go on Netflix and choose shows without commercials. But honestly, I may just stop watching TV altogether real soon.

H i Snugpug, yes i think so...I gave up watching T.V a few months ago, i used to enjoy settling down in the evening to watch my soaps, but the characters that they were bringing in was very uncomfortable to watch, especially if my grand children were with me, simple soaps are now full of homosexuality, violence, drinking, drugs, everything i was watching made me realize just how worldly things have become, i have warned my daughters to be careful on what they are slipping into the childrens programs,i do worry for their sake...xox...

One thing I often wrestle with is whether or not Christians should spend so much time and money on entertainment to begin with.
Almost none of it is actually appropriate. Even in kids shows and cartoons. A few years back Katy Perry was on Sesame Street. Her dress was so low cut that parents flooded the station with complaints and the episode was pulled from rotation. Or taking one of her songs on sex and changing the lyrics to kids lyrics. But it's still her song, so when kids hear the real version what will they be hearing?
But I look at the bible. The men in the NT. Their primary focus was preaching and teaching. Not entertainment. Because they viewed the world as a mission field of people dying in sin and tgat these people needed salvation.

Some have been in Britain but due to so many complaints and I assume a lack of sales with one company that used to push a gay agenda, they have done a U turn and gone for humour and I hope their U turn goes to show a rise in sales when they promote their products in righteous ways.

I actually think things will get better for Christians in this area.

The internet is giving more platforms and outlets for creative people who want good, clean fun.

You could always do something else during commercial breaks :p

I have a TV, but not the box for receiving signals, so I just play Playstation / DVDs on it. Haven't had a "proper" TV for about five years. Haven't missed it :p

Can't you get broadcast signals with an antenna?

You know the thing is everything is becoming more and more corrupt,I mean when I was in elementary school and with kids in elementary school nowadays the amount of vulgerness cussing and sexual remarks have gone up at least 47%. And with t.v. commercials the reason it's so corrupt is that it sells. i mean you have a commercial of two guys drinking bear compared to two hot women drinking it which do you think will prompt more people to buy it?

It's a mind game that a majority of those who are entranced by it don't even realize it, without even knowing it they are being played by the companies selling. Yes you can show your product but when you show your product with something that the average American is attracted to without even knowing it the American consumers are being mind played into buying. Personally I don't allow such things to infiltrate my thought process, I mean I love family guy and amercian dad I have watched these two series countless times yet they do not corrupt my way of thinking because yes while I watch these things my mind and my heart are almost always focused on God there simply is no room in there for such things.

But it isn't so easy to be able to allow certain things in and certain things out for others, some people are much more influential with such things. So to answer the question of the op ask yourself this, can you watch such things without it consuming your thought process?

If youre worried about commercials, you can get something like Netflix. Its both cheaper than cable, and you can pick what you want to watch. And it doesnt have commercials : p

Christians don't have to do anything. You can still watch whatever you want. No one is going to stop you. Of course, the possible consequences for watching violent and/or sexual material without ceasing, that's another story.

Yea its getting pretty bad. TV is actually a reflection of society. Society right now is anti-christian and anti-conservative, so that's what you get on television...

ask yourself, would Jesus want you to partake of such abomination without His leadership???

I threw our first TV in the pond in the early 80's, but after living without it for so many years,
no one, unless they have done this, could believe what will happen in your head/spirit without
the demonic 'feed'....

I really don't want to give up watching TV, I like too many TV shows and movies. With that said you can always just subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, on demand service, Amazon, just about anything where you can control what you watch and when you want. I watch TV but I don't really watch comercials unless it's an ad for a movie, video game some funny sports ad. Youtube (no matter how much they want to restrict what people show and upload) is still your friend.

Also not everything is horrible on TV, there are still good shows, still good movies out there to watch.
